military not exceeding level 4

I can't get my military above 10/10 experience. After they've reached 10/10 by winning battles and you've chosen a new promotion their experiences stays at 10/17. no matter how many units I kill my military won't get promoted anymore. is there a reason for this and is anyone else experiencing this?

Try fighting better opponents, and certainly not barbarians - barbs don't give exp to any unit over level 3 IIRC.

after you go above 10 in xp, when you use a promotion it takes you back to 10/17 in xp. for example, you reach 17/17 and you use your promotion, your unit gets his promotion and then goes to 10/26.

Animals give you xp up to a maximum of 5, barbs up to 10. Any other troops up to infinity.

Promotions happen at 2, 5, 10, 17, 26, 37, ...?... xp.

If you upgrade a unit with more than 10 xp, it keeps its promotions but xps are reset to 10. Example:
11/17 -> 10/17
32/37 -> 10/37
Note that the xp necessary for next promotion are NOT reset, which means that an upgraded lvl.6 (5 promotions) unit will need to earn a further 27 xp to get the next promotion. Which really sucks.

that is exactly what I said. "when you USE a promotion ABOVE 10 xp you go back to 10 xp and your next level keeps going up."

Example:
aquire 10/10 xp -> after use of promotion from this level = 10/17 xp
aquire 17/17 xp -> after use of promotion from this level = 10/26 xp

if at 17/17 you dont use your promotion until after you hit 26/17 you have 2 promotions to use and after ward you will be at 10/37 xp.

This is just plain wrong. You do NOT lose any xp when you use promotions. As karmina said, if you're above 10 xp when you upgrade, xp is reset to 10.

I don't think the difference has been explained clearly yet

PROMOTION = adding combat I, drill, woodsman, etc. NO XP LOSS
UPGRADE = Turning your rifleman into an infantry. XP reduced to 10 if you exceed 10.

you can get units a LOT of promotions...

in fact i have 1 unit in a saved game that has 147 XP right now and the promotions he has takes 2 full rows to display...actually covering up part of the unit itself when looking at it

im scared to upgrade him...going from 10 to 154 is going to be a LONG road...LOL
