Now in my most recent game I used an excellant strategy to attack my enemies in Europe, here it is..

I'm the Japanesse, i'm at war with Romans, French, Mongols and the Carthagnains.

I've tooken most Mongol cities and have ravaged the Carthagnian empire with my Cavalry army.

The year is currently 1830ish. I decided to defeat the Roman empire by sea, so loaded two Transports to the full with marines supported with 3 cruisers and a destroyer.

Early morning: Cruisers open the attack on Rome by sea.

Afternoon: Japanesse Imperial Marines swoop in with an amphibious attack which ravages the City.
A Destroyer and Cruiser open an attack on Pompei and Imperial Marines swoop in and take the city easily.

Evening: Rome has fallen and the city is now under Japanesse control. Casualties: 1 marine unit.

Late Evening: Veii is surprise attacked by Japanesse First Cavalry, the city is taken early the next morning with minor losses.

I was very pleased with myself in these quick thinking plans which quickly gained us a foothold in Europe. What do you think and if you have any other great military victories and strats then share them....

Thanx, Dexter:D

P.S. I wasn't sure wether to put this is in the "Stories and Tales" forum or put it here, so sorry if I got it wrong.

What level were you playing at?
You said Europe so I'm assuming it's on a world map - whereabouts was the city your invasion force came from? I doubt it would be on the Japanese islands as that would take forever to get around either cape.
How did you come to lose the marine unit? Was it because your attacks with the armoured ships were not sufficient to reduce the city to 0 defenders? I like the idea of marines but usually use them for their defensive/attacking combination before tanks rather than their special ability. I prefer to bombard a city's defenders and then march in any unit than to attack from the sea. I suppose it cancels out city walls which is a bonus. The movement of the cavalry from the opposite direction is another old favourite - a frequently vital asset being that it prevents the AI building one of those irritating last-ditch settlers who take ageas to find.

Yes it was on a world map and my units came from Edo, Satsuma, Karakorum, Nagasaki and Nagoya.

Edo, Karakorum and Satsuma were all on the Asia continent, where as the others were at Northern America. I only attacked with two cruisers cutting the city to one defender then it took two marines to defeat the remaining Alpine Troop.

As for my Japanesse Island it is small on the map and both cities there have little production meaning my army comes from mainland Asia and America.

The reason I chose to use the Marines was to have a change, I never really use them for Amphibious assaults but after this success I think I will.

Oh yeah and I am playing on Warlord but after this game I'll move to Prince. :goodjob: The difficulty might explain the easiness but I find units do have trouble defeating the enemy on Warlord than Chieftain and I have found out that Veteran units are very usefull!!!

the city is taken early the next morning with minor losses.
Sounds like a glorious victory for the ages!! Probably does fit better it the "Stories and Tales" section, but there is strategy in it too :). You'll enjoy Prince, I think :).

You don´t need any military strategy. Just a civil one: grow faster and better. When you have a shield production of 20 times your opponents and howitzers against their musketeers, it is no problem. So keep peace and don´t retaliate on your opponents until you reach tihs level. Just build settlers, more and more... and more.... and more....

Ummm, I know a knight can beat a howitzer if it attacks in the open so technology isn't always the best "tatic". Also, scenarios tend not to be so tech heavy. sure you can win with tech but if you dont use tactics it will be real long and hard... so I use a certain number of things to both add to the fun and to make my job easier (I am, of course, Generalisimo :D )

My tactis are
A: Always attack the stronger unit if you can chose between two that you will most likely beat, this will give you a advantage when the next turn comes and he attacks.
B: Never force weak units farther than you have to, if you give them some time to rest you may have some real nice vets to use.
C: always let the most damaged unit take a city so they get auto repaired.
D: Suicide attacks are stupid, as long as you can hold you can build a good army so your casualties stay below ten.
And E: Always use defence as a offence, if you have a terrain bonus its hard to kill you, and if they do they probably used up to much to take advantage of there new opening.
