The Bab's have attack us and most likly are going to bring many allies in with them. We need to seek our own alliance's and start planning what we are going to do. We are against 2 foes... India and the Bab's. The Greeks might be coming in the war soon.

I suggest we seek America and Russia as allies. They bordor us and if we lose them then we will have a tough time defending ourselves. Also Russia can be given Military Tradation giving them the feared unit "Cossacks."

I agree, But we must face a defensive war since the Babs are more advances that us.

Exactly why we should seek alliance's. It will force them to move more troops to attack are allies making it easier for us to take the offensive.

We should get a ROP with the Iroquois and send over an explorer to destroy the Bab's resources, which are real near their borders...

This is not the time for defense. The most powerful unit in the field now is Cavalry, and we should exploit it. We must take the fight to Babylon to prevent them from doing the same to us.

Also, this war is going to be tricky and heavily tainted by political deals. Russia, who I think everyone believes is an obvious ally in this fight, is fighting China, who should, by all rights also be brought into the war on our side. The Iroquois would make another excellent ally as they are already friendly towards us, but they are at war with America and France. We dare not risk either of those nations joining in on Babylon's side.

We should also attempt to bring England into the fight as they have signed a MPP with Greece, and since Babylonian troops are already in English lands, the likelihood of getting Greece to come on board is high (and cheap too ;)).

The phony Persian war is essentially over. I don't think we have a single alliance any more against them and all our neighbors have stopped fighting them in favor of fighting us, apparently. We may wish to consider making peace with Persia at this time. Let's see what they'll give us to make peace.

I think we should try to sign an alliance with France and America against the Babylonians. This minimizes the threat of 2 front war (yes, 2 front, as India and Babylon really represent only a single front...). I would like to get the Iros involved as well, lessening the chance of Babylon bringing them into the fight on their side.

Russia will join and if we give them Mil Trad, their Cossacks may very well give Babylon more than they can handle. China would also be nice to have on our side, but it looks to me like the Russians have pretty much neutralized any threat they may pose to us in the South.

In conclusion, I believe we should pursue alliances with France, America, Iroquois, Russia, England and China, in that order of priority. Of course, this is an immediate reaction to the events at hand, and my judgement may still be impaired as a result of the open bar at Bavaria Castle last night, so this may change as the next turn chat looms closer.

I agree... Just the order of priority would be differant.... Russia is a neighbor + those cossacks would be the strogest unit at this time. We can not underestimate what it would cost them if the babs get them before we do.

We do have an allience with the Zulus against Persia. Maybe we can have a quick chat to remove that allience?

Plus, the Babs also have riflemen (as do the French, Greece, and Persia).

I have done some looking at alliance deals for three nations bordering or close Babylon:

China:
We Give- 350g, WM

Russia:
We Give- Military Tradition

Iroquois:
We Give- Incense

I would also support an alliance with France or Greece, but haven't looked at it yet.

The Chinese deal can be lowered. When you look at a deal, it gives you an "estimate", but you can raise/lower/add/subtract to that deal.

This is what I suggest for the 3 alliances mentioned above:

China: RoP, 150 gold, 10 gpt for an alliance against Babylon.

Russia: Military Tradition as stated above.

Iroquois: Incense as stated above.

We can also bring France into this war against Babylon for a small price (WM and 8gpt to be exact, along with a RoP), but it would mean many French troops in our territory. It would also reduce the chance of the French joining the war against us. Keep in mind that Babylon, unlike any enemy we have ever fought, has an effective economy, and will likely be able to buy allies. America will join us for our WM, RoP and 4gpt, but will create the same situation as a French alliance. Finally, England will ally against Babylon and sign a RoP for any of our techs.

BTW, Rome has two workers in its capital that it will trade us for our WM!

Our current treasury stands at 595g, 84gpt.

Take those workers.... Also I would suggest that we do not get the French/American's with us right now. Both are not very happy with us and having there troops in our terrority would be inviting them.

I thought the T/C was tonight again... I've gotta be more careful... sorry  :crazyeye:

Anyway, these are the things I feel should be done.

A.) upgrade 17 Knights, 9 in the North around Dapperdan (to take Izibia), the 4 in the Eastern cities (for counter attacks and improved defense), and the 4 in Kagoshima, concidering there's a Cavalry within attacking distance right now. This will cost 340g. This should hopefully leave enough gold for Alliances... if enough is left over after alliances I would like to expand on this list, but I think this is more or less a minimum.

B.) If possible get Cavs to the south, treasury limitations make this harder, but I think we need to wrap up the Indian war quickly, getting techs from Gandhi if possible.

C.) Many cities taken from the Babs will likely be razed due to Flip risks and quick Cavalry movement, we will have to decide with each city whether to raze or keep it, Izibia should be kept, I believe.

Alliances....

with Zulus

if we give them Econ we can get 37g an MA vs. the Babs and 1gpt

CT showed reservations about the gpt causing a rep. hit if the Zulus die.

Also I admit 37g and 1gpt isn't much... but it can't hurt, not like keeping Econ is doing us any good anymore.

with the Romans

Give them Metallurgy along with Physics and we can get an MA, their 6g treasury, Democracy, and 2 workers.

(I believe this is a MUST)

I'm also putting Chieftess in charge of the "covert ops" of the explorers, since I'm not well practiced in such tactics.

we also should seek alliances with Russia and the Iros. I feel China is optional, but it would be good if we can get 'em, any help will be good.

Also, eastern alliances might be good, to make sure no 2 front war, but once again I feel these are optional.

I was just talking to DaveMcW in chat (he posts in the Strategy & Tips forum), and he said that my suspiscions were correct. We would get a rep hit of the Zulus were to be conquered.

Also, here is a strategy someone wrote on using explorers. Granted, the info is slightly outdated. But, we could get a team of explorers to scout the land of a future enemy. (but that's for later - basically, scout 1 turn before to see troop movement, then go in and pillage resources).

French and American troops will be crossing through our territory regardless of their involvement in our war against Babylon! They are currently at war with the Iroquois and will not likely stay outside our borders out of respect.

We should bring them into the war on our side to prevent them from being enlisted by Babylon.

This might alienate the Iroquois as it would be rather easy to get them on our side.

Not getting the Americans and French on our side would be a huge mistake!

I think we should get France and America first, then Russia and the other people...

I think we should bring the Iro's, Chinese, and Russians in on the Incense/gpt deals I posted in the F/A thread. If the French and Americans can be brought in cheaply after that, then fine. But they are a long way from home and easy pickins for our troops if they decided to declare war.

We could probably bring almost everyone on our side. There's also a few civs that we don't have embassies with. But, we also have to remember that these troops will be marching through our lands again.
