Milking... the conversation

Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone.

Now that it's been a few days, I've been able to recenter myself on my true philosophy, that you're only as old as you feel. Grandparents playing with their grandkids in the afternoon are in some ways younger than the middle generation of parents busting their butts and stressing at work all day!

Aren't you the middle generation? Or are you playing with your grandchildren?:)
I am indeed the middle generation in my family, but I'm not a parent.

Since I'm retired I just have a lot more quality time to milk a game...I even have a better perspective of what is important or not..
I like your perspective. If I'm lucky I'll be retiring by your current age 25 years from now.

I wonder if I'll still be able to play Civ III on any PC OS by then, or will it be "repackaged" with a bunch of other games to run on the latest technology.

If I were retired I could work on my Corvette and play Civ - right now I can't seem to find the time to do both.

Probably not on the OS of the time, but I would guess yes, you could play it easily and cheaply. Taking the current IT climate, depending on where you are in the world, it will cost $20 - $50 for a legacy PC that runs DOS 6.2, and therefore plays all those games from the late 80's early 90's.

I imagine the situatuation in 2030 will be no differant, save a radical alteration in the electiricity supply.

Good thread :)

My name is Peter. People call me Pete, Pan, Hippy, Stefan, Rog or in one long misunderstanding, Steve.

I am 31 (although I can still get away with 21 (this is important to me!))

I have a degree in Physics (with Electronics and Computing) although I am employed as a worthless lackey. *sigh*

My fave authors include Larry Niven, Terry Pratchett and Tolkien.

I am a major fan of British Sci Fi and comedy, especially Red Dwarf, hitch-hikers, Blackadder etc...

Babylon 5 beats Star Trek any day (wow that could start a fight.)

B5 trumped by Star Wars. (the new ones suck.)

Guns n' f****n' Roses: the Best Band In The World Ever! Also, Placebo, Sleeper, Radiohead, The Beatles, Marillion... and a couple hundred others.

The 1812 Overture makes me cry (that bit at the end with the bells...)

Hobbies include this, various varieties of Warhammer (tabletop wargaming - hello Eldar :) ) and sports (I currently run most days, play football and badminton once a week, used to row for my university...) Oh, and a certain computer game you may be familiar with.

If anyone wants a picture, they can have me a)being a troll :crazyeye: , or b)dressed in rowing lycras (no i'm not as big as Matt Pinsent :p )

Well, not totally spam, it's meant as a place for active HOF participants to get to know each other.

So it's kinda offtopic for the HoFers.

Speaking of introduction, some friends even call me Civ. I wonder why...

Marsden's bump made me notice this old piece of misinformation...:
