1st ruin: Upgrade Warrior to Spearman. 2nd ruin: Archery tech. Buy an Archer, use military to clear camps, giving free units due to Germany's Unique Advantage. Use military to tribute a bunch of city states to buy a Settler and get early 2nd city. Honor tree means accelerated culture and some help with happiness. Continue to grow military for free and 2nd round of tributing leads to 2nd bought Settler.

Pangaea map, Standard size and speed, Immortal difficulty. Any feedback on how I could improve would be appreciated.

WTH?

I tried a game as Germany and I was -5 gold at turn 37. Of course it didn't help that in my game I had to fight against three barb arches and two regular barbs.

And still at one city.

I ended up rage quitting.
