Ok so i want to make a mod that adds a minecraft civ into the game, i have done basic Civ IV moding and i know how to add a civ to that game, but i want to know how much different modding Civ V compared to Civ IV, also i would like some one to go over the basic idea for the Minecraft Civ that i have come up with to make sure it is not OP.

first off, why am i doing this, because i thought it would be fun to play Civ with a Minecraft themed civilization so thats why.

now for the Civ

Name:
Minecraftia
Leader:
Steve
Ability:
Masters of Diamond (Gems provide double quantity, and the units Diamond Swordsman and Diamond Longswordsman can be built (they are the same as the regular swordsmen, but use gems instead of iron))
Unique unit:
Minecrafter (hybrid Scout/Settler/Worker can do all the things they can do, cost 100)
Unique Improvement:
Nether Portal (+1 faith, +1 production, connects to all other Nether Portals (thus units can move instantly between portals) requires mining)

city names so far:
Capital: Notchholm
Yogcave
Jerry's tree (captiansparklez)
Antvenom's Peacful World (work in progress name)

so i would love some help balancing the Civ and i would like some city names if possible. thanks :D

It wouldbe cool if you could remodel all of the minecraft cvs units to look like actually minecraft people

Okay, few things here:

- You can't just turn a luxury resource into a strategic like that. Double quantity for a luxury resource? What does that mean? Nothing. Also would complicate things when unique units require these luxuries.

- Settler, Worker, Scout hybrid? How do you propose the AI to handle that one? Do you just remove settlers for the civ? Okay, then will the AI use the unique unit to settle, or work (choose one). Either way, you're setting the AI up to fail with this civ (although it is possible to set their AIPlayable to 0).

- You are going to need LUA coding to do your unique improvement, and the AI will have no idea how to use this improvement to any effect. Also, it completely breaks after more than 2 portals are active (okay, do we move to this one, or the other? Which one do we choose?) This is extremely advanced.

It means that you have more copies to trade, but I agree that in most cases it isn't very useful.

Wow yeah damn I completely forgot about that.

A better civ would be as follows:

Steve - Minecraftia (Masters of Diamond)

All Gem resources produce +3 :c5production:, +2 :c5gold:, and +1 :c5faith:. Receive a 20% defense bonus on improved Hills. Gem resources produce double quantity.

UU: Diamond Swordsman (replaces Longswordsman) - Can be built if city has Diamond in its radius (perhaps enabled by a dummy unique Barracks).
UI: Nether Portal (replaces Mine) - +2 :c5production: and +1 :c5faith:. Allows travel to and from any other Nether Portal. Can be connected with city to form a Trade Route (if that is possible).

This, I think, will make the game playable to the AI by removing the Minecrafter unit.

How do you propose to handle the Nether Portal? :crazyeye:

I actually really like this idea, however with UI's they don't replace other Improvements, they just add another Improvement that the nation can use, but i am thinking about removing the Travel between portals, because while the nether does allow for faster travel, it would still take a while to get from one side of the world to the other. And the Diamond Swordsman replacement to Longswordsman does make sense because of the "tech advancement" from Iron tools to Diamond tools in Minecraft.

So does any one else have anything to say on this? Perhaps balance wise, and making the Diamond Swordsman a bit more interesting rather than a complete carbon copy of the Longswordsman with a dummy unique Barracks, (also how would i do that?)
Also Thank you very much for your input.

also some more city names would be nice

Edit:
I just thought of something for the Masters of Diamond ability here is the new rewrite
All Gem resources produce +3 :c5production:, +2 :c5gold:, and +1 :c5faith:. Receive a 20% defense bonus on improved Hills. Gem resources produce double quantity. All Mines provide +1 diamond.

So now what do u guys think could be improved upon?

I thought about doing something like this, but it was the other way around: a Minecraft mod based on CiV. I like this idea, if you could pull it off.

The Diamond swordsman could have a 20-30% combat bonus on rough land.

For settlers you could do villagers

nether portal transportation is probably not going to work

scouts could be wolves

warriors could be steve's

horsemen could be steve on a pig

spearmen could be zombie pigmen

instead of shrines you could have nether portals-the teleportation effect

I think for city names you would also need Stronghold, Abandoned Mine Shaft, Desert Temple, Jungle Temple, Nether, Overworld...
You know, just going off of what creeperderek was suggesting, which seem to all be terrain features/dimensions in Minecraft, as opposed to references to youtubers.

And I'm not entirely sure why you're including faith in the UA...
