Minefield "improvement"?

potatokiosk To fix this problem you have it so that the mine doesn't auto blowup you tell it when to.:crazyeye:

But then fast-moving units would simply bypass the minefield altogether. Honestly, though, I don't see what so unrealistic about keeping a stack of Chariots around to intercept the mines. It's like what they say about WWII: The Europeans and Americans protected their armor squadrons from mines by developing complex anti-mine devices; the Soviets just sent in the infantry first !

With their low Strength, I imagine Chariots would have a tough time surviving a minefield; they may even be killed outright.

I like the idea, one way to stop the AI from useing it too much would be to make it cost gold to build them, or maybe support them with gold per turn.

The minefield on land doesn't have to occupy entire squares, it could just be on the edges, so a unit takes damage as it crosses it.
Kind of like the Great wall wonder, but maybe build it piece by piece.

.....Or perhaps to simulate the idea that those who've built and placed them, know where they are so are not affected when passing over them, rebuild them automatically when activated and not curenttly on a foreign occupied space, and even spread the word as to their whereabouts with their comrads.
Oh yeah, and built in whole.

I don't really think it fits with the scale of the game. 1 tile is meant to represent a huge area, many kilometres across, and I don't really think a minefield fits with such a large area.

Mines have been in other games in the past, and they're always incredibly annoying and open to abuse. For a while they were in loads of RTS games, and they always provide way more annoyance and frustration than fun. I doubt the AI would be able to use them effectively...... or at least, wouldn't be able to abuse them in the same way humans would.
Which is why there shoulg be a small chance of being hurt by it because it is only in one spot on the tile.
