Start as the Kavithan Protectorate and choose to start with the Pioneering advance. It works just fine. Exit to the Main Menu and start a new game with the same settings using Play Now. You will not have the Pioneering advance. A minor bug to be sure, and easily worked around, but I thought I'd report it.

I saw that too. I also had coastal mapping selected and when I tried play now it launched without that. Interestingly enough, also Kavithan Protectorate.
