Hi folks. New to the forum and hoping I can tap into your collective wisdom.

I've recently had an error message when I try and load in my game of 142 turns - it's one that has been referred to elsewhere - the error message says:

"Runtime error!

Program...common\sid meier's civilisation V\Civilisation V\DX_11.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information."

I've reinstalled Direct X 11, updated my graphics card drivers (Radeon AT5700), and reinstalled and updated C++ or whatever it's called but still got the error.

I then had a look in the save game folder and my save game is gone along with all the previous saves from that game!!

I've tried to restore previous versions of the save game folder but they don't happen to contain versions of that game.

Any ideas?

Unfortunately when you try to load a save and it crashes it could mean some few things:

  • Something on your game is missing/corrupted
  • The save file was already messed up (Which often cannot be fixed)
  • You used a mod on that save and you don't have it on.
  • Insufficient video memory (Cannot load everything).
  • Sheer bad luck.

The game don't usually delete the saves, try using the search function of Windows to look for the saves in case they moved somewhere else. However if they're not on the disk and not on the paper bin they are easily lost.

Thanks for the tip - I found the save game files under ModdedSaves. For some reason they were put there. Now I need to figure out why.

Bizarrely enough, I have no problem reloading games that I've just saved - as long as I don't reboot my machine.

Well the game save in 2 locations; In modded saved and saves folder.
The game saves on "Saves" folder if is a non-moded save, ie vanilla Civ5 without going to "mods" on the main menu.-
The "Modded saves" is the location of any save made under the mod section of the main menu.
The game might have crashed then because either you tried to load such save without the corresponding mod on or simply whatever the mod the save was linked with is broken or corrupted or simply is incompatible.

As long as you can load and play fine you shouldn't worry about where the saves are stored.
