Mix RTS Combat with CIV

I've played a couple games of Total War. Interesting, but I prefer Civ as a game. I'm sure it would also be huge to implement. New extension? The learning curve for the new player would also go up astronomically.

I like my games turn-based, and I suspect that may be pretty common among loyal Civ fans. I think a mod that exported your battle to a format that could be loaded up into Total War would be more feasible.

I really think this would be a BAD idea, Civ based combat is too detailed already, I generally think combat should be more abstract.

While this type of thing Could be fun, it wouldn't fit well with a game of Civ.

If you stripped down the other (non combat) parts to make civ like an RTS game generator, then it would be a fun game, but not the direction I would like to see in Civ V (probably good for Civ Rev 2 or something like that)

why would you wait some horrible ripoff of CIV to be a RTS game... Starcraft 2 is coming so just be patient.

Sure, it could work.

But what do you want to bet that the devs would spend so much time on the shiny battles that the main, turn-based bit would suffer.

And, just as importantly, civ shouldn't be all about war. It's already the human player's greatest advantage - giving us greater control over combat would only make this imbalance even worse.

The changes I'd like to see are:
*Greatly improved performance on larger maps with lots of civs.
*A better AI - one that can build a decent economy without relying on bonuses, and fight a decent war without relying on superior numbers or a tech advantage.
*A deeper and more involved diplomatic system.
*Even more map and rule customisation options (a more balanced and predictable version of the SmartMap script would be a great start).

Well it was just a thought ;)

After reading all the posts I will revoke my suggestion, you guys are probably right bad idea.

Going to have to look at total war though.
