[MOD] Alagaesia Total Conversion

may i ask how a shade looks like? or even request a pic, if one exists? i dont want to imply anything with this question :mischief:

Here's a good one. For reference a Shade is about 7 feet tall. Also he magical though he mostly uses his sword in the books and movie. Don't worry out replacing my shade its only a swords man w/ red hair and taller. Not to imply anything :mischief:.

Did you get that javalneer to work, i put him in mine and got a pikeman? (Is he already in the beta?)
Hows it going, whats next on the agenda?

I adjusted the javalneer to a spearman since that fit in with the current units I have. And yes he'd in. Thats him to the third from right row bottom. I just slapped the ork shield of rabbit's on him.

I'm not sure whats next on the agenda. First I'm going to rework the tech tree "again".
Next I'm probably going to do one of two things.

1. Weapons upgrade.
Each unit class will be able to have different weapons.
Examples:
Melee: Bronze->Iron->Mithril->Enchanted
Archery: Wood->Yew->Horn->Enchanted
Different building will allow a upgrades. Any units in a city will be upgraded one per turn. With new units already having the new weaponry. This will in effect replace the promotions.

2. Unit "Weights"
Each unit will have a weight 'Lite", "Medium", "Heavy".
Heavy units will almost always face the best defender. Medium usually face one of the better defenders. Lite units will usually face the weaker units in a stack.
This way you not always facing the best defender, and it gives you a reason to use skirmisher units and such.

Any ideas or thoughts? Also I could use play testers. Please PM or post if you would like to play test.

But why does weaponry replace promotions, i suggest letting it replace the "higher tier" units (so no upgrade from spearman to pikeman but from bronze to iron) and let the promotions in for getting some variety into the units inside a unitclass (i just think this might reduce the need of too much new graphic stuff, which seems you would deserve... if i only had more time :( ).

I don't really want to replace the upgrade system. The weapon upgrade system is meant to upgrade a units weaponry thus needing a forge or something, I think of the unit upgrades as retraining and reequipping thus needing a bit of gold.

And I think I know what to do about the promotions (a part of the game I really dislike). I'll set it up so units get different types experience from different combats.

Example:
Jungle Warfare: Battles won in forest and jungles
City defense: Battles won in cities.
City attack: Battles won in city attacks.

And I'll force auto promote and remove the healing. That way units simply become stronger in different areas of combat according to their experiences. No more attacking a city and adding then using the experience to gain the garrison promotion.

I was just planning to have the weaponry appear were the promotions were and not change the units. As that would require multiple nifs per unit.

And anyways between you and Rabit White there are enough units to get anyone started in the fantasy realm. I just need to learn how to do 3D for myself, though I think I'll never get as good at this 3D stuff as you. I'm a programmer not artist.

a great game needs both - Programmer and Artists ;) so i suggest you concentrate on Programming and get even better with it, ths being able to implement even more of your great ideas ;)
Perhaps you find someone willing to do some nif editing and retexturing, as that is really easy and you can use existing unit parts. (good tutorials are out there in the section).

Thank you. Civilization promotion system and lack of attack bonuses are my two lease favorite aspects of the game and I intend to fix them. Allowing the first promotion to be choose able is a good idea.

lol with the amount of programming on my plate its good that I like it. If my teacher wasn't allowing Civ4 programming to count I wouldn't be able to continue modding. However I agree it takes both Programmers and Artists which is why I'm trying to learn to be both. Currently I can model decently (though slowly). But not texture. My UVW maps are always badly warped :(.

I've hit a bit of a bump. I've been grounded and I'm not going to be able to work on the mod again for between three days to two weeks, just depends on what happens to my Spanish grades.

I'll post again once I'm able to get some work done. Unfortunately, this will push back the 1.2.0 release date temporarily.
 
Oh well it could be worse. The annoying thing is I'm allowed to play games still. Why do I have to get grounded from a hobby that requires concentration and a development of skills that can be used in the real world, but am allowed to play video games still? Oh well I must get back to studying Spanish and stop ranting.

OK did some beta testing for ya, heres what i have so far, i only had about a half hour, sorry:
It appeared that the Word of Guntera had a pink icon in the beginning of the game , then later on it turn to the normal icon (wierd).
The Chosen and Polytheism icon appear to be pink?
The camera angle was in to close when the Dragon was figting and it cut off its head, i like to see all the specials effects??
The Scythred Chariots swordsmans HEAD appeared to be off centered when either fighting East or West?

The religion icon at this time seem to have a mind of there own. I have noticed that they will appear and disappear. A reduce the camera zoom for battles a bit thanks for catching that, and I'll look into the of center head thing. Thats odd.

WTH?? when i try to unzip ( im using trial of winrar) it always says that the pak0.fpk (or something like that) is corrupted :( do u have any suggestions?

Try to re download. I'm using the trial version too so that shouldn't matter.

Anyways to everyone else. I just wan't to say that I'm still working on this mod. However, progress has been slow because of many other activities I have going on right now. I hope to update about the 1.2.0 beta within the week.
