I've been kicking around the idea for a kiddo mod based on the old computer game Oregon Trail. The goal would be to take a settler/civ from the East coast to the West Coast, to make a city/civ, and take that city to a certain level. All the while facing the trials of the time. I kind of envision a heavy dose of the event manager for river crossings, wars, indian encounters, etc...There wouldn't be much killing, except for hunting, all wars would be external things done with the event manager. I would also like to have some sort of hunting system, so that for your band to survive you have to hunt animals with Family units. (Each person in the party is a unit.) The animals would give food.

It's interesting in that a kid could interact with the geography (label everything), peoples/tribes/nations of the day, and through playing the game see some of the hazards that were faced. Anyway just mulling what it would take to do well, and looking at tutorials...Feel free to toss some ideas in.

This sounds kind of cool if it was done well, but that would take a lot of work, especially with the event manager. Not to mention that I would think it would be tough to gain food from killing animals. Besides, I think the standards for Oregon Trail are pretty high, and when I feel like playing Oregon Trail, I think I'd almost always go play the original Apple IIe version instead of a civ version. Besides, the hunting and navigating down the river with the arrow buttons was half of the fun. Well that and "Joe has cholera. Joe has died." But if you're really ambitious, go for it.

Only if you make it so your family members get sick at the most unconcievable times, just like in the game.
