Hello, I have downloaded a bunch of Mods but only one, Wolfshanze, works. I downloaded the newest CIV4_BtS_WolfshanzeMod_270, Merged_mod_0_60, JKP_Nextwar_ Revolutions19, and JKP-NextWar__40_1.42. Is there something I am missing here, I think I downloaded them correctly, save the downloaded file to the BtS Mod folder and then extracted the files. I also copyed the FPK file from the original Wolfshanze Asset folder to the Merged Mod Asset folder. Still none of these work! I spent Saturday playing the Nextwar Revolutions, looking forward to get some cool future weapons and all I got was Future Tech. What a let down! Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

There are generally two folders where the mods can go. The first one is My Documents\My Games one (or User\Documents\My Games in Vista) and the second one is within Program Files or where the game was installed to. Some mods require the latter one, while most mods (to my experience) work from the first one.

However not all mods are tested on Vista, I'm myself having problems with Extra and History in the Making :/

1. Almost without exception you need to extract the mod to:

"C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Mods" for a vanilla civ4 mod

or

"C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Mods" for a BTS mod

etc

2. Read the header for this forum:

Civ4 - Modpacks
Modpack creators can post their completed creations here.
Please don't open a new thread if you don't have file to post! This rule also applies to ALL other files forums below. Use the main Civ4 Creation forum for questions & requests.

That's the general (and right) response to your question. However, your qeustion is not very specific; if you have a specific question, you're perfectly in your right to ask it on the thread for that specific mod. (No need to start a thread on this, really.)

I thought I would have more luck since none of these Mods seem to work, I didn't want to write up 5 different postings on five different threads. I thought since only one of these mods worked that there might be a common problem among them.

Yes, I downloaded all of these mods from the BtS forum and put them in the Mods folder for BtS but nothing seems to work. Thanks.

Merged Mod works fine with me, but I can't get Wolfshanze to work either (which is kind of funny, as Merged Mod uses Wolfshanze's mod)...:crazyeye:

I have Revolution, RevolutionDCM and Wolfshanze installed and working at C:\Users\Merri\Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword\MODS (Vista)

History in the Making however requires the installation to C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Mods - it just has a weird crashing issue in Vista.

(Hope I'm not in the wrong thread; but it did say "Mod Problems" and I have a mod problem!)

First of all I'm NOT a computer wiz - hope you will find it in your heart to forgive these what will surely be banal questions.
I found a good XML Editor - it will just be a matter of trial and error getting to know it. But I need good advice. When the game crashes because you have been a bit too creative or so, do any of you know how I can pin-point the problem? Is there any easy way of doing so?

I have used Wolfshanze's mod, but made some adjustments. First of all I made the Marathon reseach speed slower (350 instead of 300) in "CIV4GameSpeedInfo"
Then I removed almost all of the small wonders "CIV4BuildingInfos".
Then I made Hitler '_FINANCIAL' instead of '_CHARISMATIC' in "CIV4LeaderHeadInfos".

I could play the game untill 1700 BC (I thing), then it crashed into windows. Any body have any idea why?

Thanks.

Well I have tried to get this things to work but no joy. I find the whole thing very frustrating. I will most likely give up, Wolfshanze is pretty fun. I guess thats it.

@Scotty

1 - Download mod archives (zip, rar or exe files) to some folder other than Beyond the Sword\mods folder. Keep these files for later re-installation if needed and save yourself the time of downloading them again.

2 - Don't use the right-click menu option of extract here or extract to just open the archive file in the appropriate program WinZip or WinRar or whatever you have.

3 - In the program's window there will be a folder that has the same name of the mod. Drag this folder to Beyond the Sword\mods folder.

4 - Load the mod in the usual way.

You can also extract the content of the archive file to a temporal folder then copy it to the mods folder.

This procedure just ensures that you got the right folder structure. Direct extraction of files depends on default options of the program you use. Sometimes WinZip will create a folder with the name of the archive and places the archive's contents into this folder. In such case there will be two folder with the same name one inside the other which simply misses-up things big time.

What is it you're giving up?

Also, you mentioned a good XML editor... well, you already had one... Wordpad does just fine editing XML (it's what I used to create the Wolfshanze Mod).

There was a known CTD bug in Wolfshanze Mod v2.70 that involved the Polish Heavy Hussar, but I think it only effected you if you were playing as the Poles and tried to build the unit (I think the game was stable if the AI played Poland)... but I squashed that bug in v2.71 of the Wolfshanze Mod.

Well, hope you enjoy the Wolfshanze Mod at least... and I personally think Hitler was more charismatic then a financial genius, but that's just me... feel free to modify the mod anyway you like! That's what it's there for!

@PotterDK

In the XML changes you made the removal of some buildings can be number 1 suspect for the CTD. However the easiest one to look into is the change for the Marathon speed. Make sure that the number of turns you added will keep years as integer number. i.e. num-months elapsed/ 12 never produce a fraction.

After looking into this start looking at the buildings you removed. The problem can arise if some other item in the game references one of these buildings. If this reference is in XML then you would have got an XML error on start-up. Being national wonder as I understand from you post there is one building for each building class of them then there is no exception for the previous statement. If you don't get an XML error on loading then the reference maybe in Python. To encounter Python errors make them visible by changing this setting in My Document\My Games\Beyond the Sword\CivilizationIV.ini

HidePythonExceptions = 1 ===> change 1 to 0

If you get a Python error either try to solve it or post a screen shot of it so someone may help you with it.

Another approach: Start adding the buildings you removed before one after one. If the CTD disappears after adding one of them then it was its absence that caused the problem. You can keep it or try to find out what is the exact problem.

Thanks for your help, I will give your suggestion a try. Can't really hurt can it?
