After being disappointed with the space race ending, I thought 'wouldn't it be incredible if you could play in the Alpha Centauri world now'.
Indeed, this would be an amazing modification to the game - however is it doable? I know the usage of Python is powerful for extending the game's capabilities, but I am not sure how far it can go so as to accomplish this.
Not to mention the modeling and animation that would need to go into each new building, unit, resource, etc. But it is definitely something to consider, I know I'd be first in line to buy an expansion that resurrected the Alpha Centauri game within Civilization IV (although I'm not sure how that would work, if the intellectual property has exchanged hands and whatnot).
Either way, I had to express my desire for something along the lines of this and merely speculating its possible creation has me excited as it is.
That leaves the rest of the thread to discuss the possibility.
