what if.....
Constantine was assassinated before he was able to make Christianity the state religion of the Rome...?
What if ...
Martin Luther invented the internet? (Apologies to Al Gore for beating him over the head w/ something he didn't actually say for probably the millionth time.
What if ...
Gengis Khan invaded Europe?
What if ...
John Wesley was randomly chosen as king of Poland?
What if ...
Montezuma received a copy of the New Testament via SMS, stopping sacrificing people, pwned the Conquistadors, and started the Protestant Reformation?
What if .....
Some moron in an obscure U.S. border town, suffering from sleep deprivation, decided to make his own crazy Civ IV mod that left most of the game unchanged, but turned the religious system on its head?
My friends, this day has come.
THE PLOT: Replace the Civ IV's religious system w/ a reverent (but lighthearted) mod covering Modern, Western Christianity's denominational conflicts. I'm talking Presbyterian Mao-Zedong objecting to Charistmatic Cyrus's wild church services. I'm talking Baptist Incans controlling the world w/ their hardcore culture (and delicious fried chicken). I'm talking Methodist Ghandi.... who ended up converting since he never met any Christians. (Thanks to the interventions of a clever, tract-wielding missionary... named Gengis Khan)
THE PLAN: Change the religious system from the religions of the world to the various denominations of Modern, Western Christianity. Change the diplomatic system to reflect the churchy theme. (Why "trade techs" when you can invite Cyrus over for Wednesday night cell groups?) Change the wonders. (Use the Static Movies mod... and replace the pics w/ funny, church-related pics) Change the techs. (In name only. I.e. Horseback riding = Circuit Riding) Change the units. (In name primarily, w/ some (very) small graphical changes... maybe reskin some units w/ funny clothes?) ( I.e. Horsemen become Circuit Riders... )
Is it possible? Yes... I mean I think so. That other dude made that mod where he changed even the unit models, right? This shouldn't be that hard.... right? *laughs nervously*
Will I actually accomplish what I'm trying to do instead of making some loser mod that just crashes your system? Probably not.
Will I enjoy doing this? You'd better believe it.
Will I likely be flamed for this (my first) post by every serious/logically thinking person on this board? ^^^^^^^^See above
THE MORAL:
A Man came, but He was more than a Man. He was God incarnate. He made the ultimate sacrifice, and gave His perfect, priceless life for us. He also prayed that we would be one just as He and His father are One. Unfortunately, when we (Christians) bicker amongst ourselves, when we fight, when we disparage one another for selfish purposes, we act ... a lot like Civ players... only in real life... We fight... we backstab... we steal.. we pillage. We pretty much go against everything our Savior taught. I want to show what I believe in a way that's fun, a way that's funny, and a way that makes us Christians think twice before we gossip about each other.
Whaddya'll think? (Please comment even if you're not into the Christianity thing. I need to know more about the technical specifics of what I'm trying to accomplish... [I don't even own Civ IV... but I played Civ II on Chieftain for like.... six hours this one time! And I really enjoyed it. I've also played and modded Pirates! [the new, 3d one... I drew half a mustache on the main character] Does all that qualify me?
