Hello everyone,

I'm currently in the process of making a custom Modpack for Civ5. The core concept merges the Communitas Patch with Prehistoric Era and any of the no longer continued future tech Mods. The problem is, Thalassicus and Carlos won't respond to me contacting them. I tried on Steam, here on the forums and via E-Mail. I just want to ask for permission. Can anyone help or try to contact them and alert them about this thread?

General philosophie:

Staying tight to the games original template, not doing anything to detailed to keep the game fun. I'm aiming for a long time solution, have something like "communitas enhanced" in mind. This mod pack will be my personal project for now and the future and should/will get frequent updates, as I'm trying the same approach for all other games I'm modding.

However, I already made decent progress. Here's a list of things:

- entirely merged and bug fixed communitas with prehistoric mod
- added various customizations to both mods to increase general difficulty and sense
- mod pack is merged directly into the gameplay part of communitas and is dependend on the communitas AI&tool pack.
- personal adaption of world map made by Gedeon, making use of the new time frame and resources, correct civilization starts etc. (pure map only, no other incooperations)
- entirely merged personal changes to the game with the modpack, this includes f.E.:

  • start at 10.000 B.C
  • start with settler only
  • various changes to enhance barbarian difficulty even further
  • new game speed: eneternal, 4x marathon research + 4 times higher building speed, to increase era duration, and aims for a massively long game

Things to do:

- incooperating cultural diffusion Mod, due to hugh amounts of incompatibilitys with prehistoric mod
- incooperating various other smaller tweaks and mods once I gained permission to do so (I'll post a list later).

Read the Modiquette.
It's arguable, depending on whether the "core concept" is mostly just packaging them together and fixing a couple of compatibility/balance issues with maybe a few minor tweaks. If that was the case, I might recommend making a separate mod that requires the others to be downloaded separately and set them as dependencies of your mod.

As far as I can tell the Prehistoric Mod is open source. I'm just trying to contact the creator out of respect. And the Communitas isn't active since when? 2014? I just want a response, that's all I'm asking.

If it was only that, then I deem it already to be enough given how the Communitas Mod is completely restructuring the Techtree. It's a pain in the ass if you want to make it compatible with any modern Mod that imports new techs, hence why I was aiming for the best prehistorical Mod out there. Merging those two alone will take me at least 4 weeks, if I find the time to work on it for at least 2-3 hours a day. The structure is forcing me to do it one by one.

I could have take the easy way out, just drop Communitas and use the Community patch, as it is much more compatible, but I quickly redecided when I figured I just can't live without Communitas, as it has a much better core concept then all the other overhauls, hence I wanted to use it as base for a Mod that I wouldn't have to bloat for the Community patch.

I suspect you're making it harder on yourself than you need to if that's how you're proceeding. I'd make my own version of PE and not touch Communitas at all; just make it a Dependency of your PE mod.

That might be true, but I had multiple attempts trying to make Communitas run with other core Mods, like the prehistoric mod, future tech mod, health&blabla(forgot the title) etc. They are all incompatible. The problem is I am so much used to Communitas, I do not want to renounce it. Hence why I'm making a modpack. I wouldn't necessarily need to make it public. Would be awesome if the original creators would allow for, as there have already been sunken 40 hours plus into the project.

I guess I'm not the only one who tried this, as I see there are other projects that completely import communitas. I'm just using parts of it.

Hi Rifler

You could always try whowards modtools (if you haven't already that is), takes abit of playing around to get the merge right but it's a great tool for mod merging

My goal isn't simply to merge something because of merging. I do this because the two main templates I'm trying to merge are highly incompatible but awesome Mods, and I also want to learn decent modding from all the code. You can't learn anything with a simple one-click-merge-solution. Also, anyone with respect to the original authors should have the decency to at least forward something comparable in amount of work.

However, I still can't contact them. Thalassicus seems to be involoved into the game industry. So he probably has better things to do and carlos doesn't seem to be available as well. Also, I switched to the original Prehistoric Mod and the latest version of communitas found over at the Github...

https://github.com/Thalassicus/cep-bnw/releases

...I also had a look at various resource packs like the resource expansion pack. I'm also think about incooperating a future tech Mod, which would normaly would be incompatible as well.

Unless you need help from them, you don't need to.

Both mods have been published to CfC, therefore both mods are covered by "The Modiquette" (linked by Nutty above). So long as your mod-mod adheres to the points covered in that you do not need explicit permission (for all the reasons given in the "No Permission Required" section)

Well then... modtools isn't just a oneclick merge and forget program, it's a tool, it can be used for that on basic mods if you so choose, it's also quite good at trouble shooting problems with a merge of mods or as you say mod templates so you can then manually make the adjustment necessary and if used with same lateral thinking for a number of other things aswell but of course it your choice to dismiss it out of hand and good luck to you

Ok, so I got to the stage were I need to merge the cultural diffusion mod into the package, to make this great feature work with the customized earth map and CPP/CBP. Does anyone know if Gedeon is still active. He's a moderator over here, but hasn't done anything since Nov. 2015?

Does the Modiquette applie to him as well, as he seems to be a very influential and respectable person on civfanatics.

The modiquette applies to anything uploaded to the CFC site - it makes no distinctions.
