Mods don't work?

Hello. I've been playing Civ IV for about a year now, but I only recently got BtS. When I try to load the Gold modpack in my new version, it doesn't work. In the old version that I had it would close the program and then re-open it, as it should. Now, though, Civ IV closes but is left open in the "Processes" window of the Task Manager, and doesn't restart with the modpack loaded.

If anybody knows how to fix this (or could lend any guidance), I would be eternally grateful!

I've had this happen with all mods from time to time, think it's just a bug with the CIV engine. Usually if I just try to load it again, it'll work evenatually. Alternatively there is a quick and easy way to load mods at the gamestart (provided you have installed the mod correctly--make sure you place the mod in the ...program files/.../Civ/Expansion Name/Mods/ path, not the Documents path).

1)right click on the main relevant expansion's .exe (for BtS right click on the Civ4BeyondSword.exe file found in the main Beyond the Sword folder), choose create shortcut.
2)Place the shortcut on your desktop
3)Rename the shortcut to the mod's name
4)Right click on the shortcut, and select properties
5)In the target, add mod=\ModName to the end, for instance for WolfRevolution on my computer this is what the WolfRevolution shortcut target looks like for me: "C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Civ4BeyondSword.exe" mod=\WolfRevolution
6)Double click the shortcut to launch Civ with the mod automatically.

Mods that automatically install, like Fall From Heaven and WolfRevolution do this for you autmatically as part of their install script.
