Hey all, I have tried asking in the RAND section, but was told i had more of a chance of getting help here. So anyways, the problem is that certain mods that i have downloaded simply don't work, while others work fine.

MODS THAT DON'T WORK
- Rhye's and Fall RAND
- Rhye's and Fall of Civilization (Newest Version)
- HephMod
- Rise of Mankind 2
- Stone Age Mod

MODS THAT WORK
- Rhye's and Fall of Civilization (Version that came with BTS)
- Pie's Ancient Europe
- CIV Gold

ERROR DESCRIPTION
When the loading bar is full everything stops and a windows message appears "Civ4BeyondSword.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience..."

TRIED (AND FAILED) SOLUTIONS
- Checking directories (everything is where it is supposed to be)
- Re-installing
- Re-downloading patch 3.19 (Then uninstalling and reinstalling BTS and patching)

OTHER INFO
I own Civ4, Warlords and BTS on real CDs. I was told this may be relevant. I downloaded the patch from this website, not through the in-game patcher.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Crash almost always means you aren't patched. If you're sure you're patched, then it's likely being caused by your custom assets, delete anything in your custom assets folder (uninstalling and reinstalling BtS does not remove custom assets). Failing that the other main cause is messing with your core BtS files.

Your list of mods makes it hard to verify anything though, because I can't be sure of their general stability. If you try to install Legends of Revolution it should give you some error messages if there is something wrong with installation. I realize I'm pointing you to the mod I work on, but that's because I've spent alot of time writing an installer that will self correct or give the user an error message if something is wrong, and also ensuring it is stable. If LoR lets you install (if it wol't it will tell you why), and it crashes (highly unlikely, this has not happened in 0.9.8 as far as I know, and should be impossible unless the user messed up their core BtS files) the next step would be to install the BUG mod as a mod; ie the multiplayer option and not the recommended option, and see if that works.

There are a lot of folders in the Custom Assets Folder but they all seem to be empty. Do i just delete the folders anyway?

And your mod will not let me install it onto my external hard drive, which is where i have Civ installed on this computer.

If your Custom assets are empty, then it doesn't matter. If there are any files in there beyond just empty folders, you need to delete them. One thing I forgot about, which you should try, is to create a shortcut to the mod you want (copy the BtS shortcut, then add mod="ModName" to the end of the target path, obviously you need to change ModName to the folder name of the mod), then when you use the shortcut to automatically launch the mod, right click on it and select "Launch as Admin". If none of these things work, the only other causes I am aware of is that you're not updated to version 3.19, or you have altered your core game files.

As far as your issue with LoR's installer goes, LoR will let you install anywhere that it detects the Beyond the Sword extension file, so you are selecting the wrong place to install. Is it automatically selecting an installation directory and you are changing it, or is it telling you autodetect has failed? If the former don't change the directory, the installer knows where it should go, if the latter you are most likely trying to get it to install in .../BtS/mods when it should go in .../BtS; setup installs in the mods folder of the directory you select, the installer clearly states this. If you are getting a pop up that says LoR wol't install, the pop up is correct about what reason it's giving you about not being able to install, and an external hard drive is not a reason. If autodetection is failing to find a civ4 registry key, the installer can't do any of it's autodetection stuff, so the installer isn't much help (I almost wasn't going to allow the installer to install if it didn't find a registry key, but some users have reported they have manually messed with their registry keys, so it does allow installation to continue if it finds nothing... but it has a failsafe where it ensures that the BtS extension file is in the install directory to ensure it's at least being put in the right place).

At this point you should try the BUG mod installer and see if that works. Remember to select the install as a mod option, and not the recommended option. If BUG causes a crash we should move discussion over to the BUG mod forums as there are some crack programmers there who could help debug, if not I don't know.

How did you install the 3.19 patch? If you used the in-game updater to download and install the patch that usually claims to install but does not actually do so, so you may not actually have the patch installed. Can you load unmodded 3.19 games? It may be worth checking the build information just to confirm that 3.19 has installed properly.

Thanks for your help guys, I found that I had the game installed in two places (which is why your mod wanted to install into my C drive, phungus). When i copied and ran a few of the mods from the C: folder they seemed to work fine, i don't know why.

Thanks for your help!
