I decided to try a game for the HOF and settled on a large world that I generated because it had a cow and a river in the opening view. The map is large, warm, wet, 5 Billion years old, continents with 60% water. I'm playing the Mayans at Monarch level with restless barbarians.

I'm at a time when I can project my final score in 2050 and it only totals 11,000+. The HOF Monarch list has 14,000+ as the lowest score. Will the C3C games have a different list or will I have to compete with the old Civ3/PTW list?

TY, superslug, it sounds like I need to make another try. I was looking at starting a huge Pangea world with the same starting contitions and was looking for a suitable start. I haven't gotten very far yet but the few that I did look at had a land tile count according to CRpMapStat of from 5377 to 5828. I have one with a cow by a river but the tile count is 5400+. What is a very good start for a HOF try?

Scorewise, the tile count you want to pay attention to is the Domination limit. In order to max out your score, you want to get to just under that limit (so you don't trigger Domination) and then milk your land/population for score.

Switching to a huge map is a good idea, since it means more tiles, it can mean more score.

In regards to what a good starting location is, opinions can vary a little bit. My personal preferences aren't set in stone, but what I usually consider a minimum is being on grassland terrain that includes a river (irrigation), bonus grassland tiles (more shields) and at least five bonus foods. The reason I like this is because I can usually set up two four-turn Settler factories and one Worker factory.

Basically, I look for optimal conditions to implement the work covered in Bamspeedy's Bablyon Deity Settlers in more than one city.
