I'm about half way finished with my massive project of a Mongol Horde Conquest. I'm nearly finished with all the research I will need on the subject, and I've almost completed my map. I am considering what units should be in the scenario.
The most Important civ is obviously the Mongols, but they don't have a lot of unit variety. Their army was initially completely cavalry. The infantry that would serve the Mongols were foreigners.
Mongols-
Light Cavalry (Mounted Archer)*, Heavy Cavalry, Keshik (Elite Guard)*.

For the rest of the civs I will divide them into cultural groupings with the same basic units with more flavorful graphics. So for instance the Sung Chinese will have Asian Spearman, Asian Swordsman etc. and the Egyptians will have Islamic Spearman and so on.
The groups are
Asian- (Chin, Sung, Hsi-Hsia, Annam, Koryo, Japan, Annam, Nan Chao, Tibet, Kara-Khitai)
Hindu-(Hindustan, Khmer, Pagan)
Islamic-(Khwarazmian, Delhi, Abbasids, Egypt, Seljuks of Rum)
European-(Germany, Hungary, Poland, Russia, Venice, Crusaders, Byzantines, Bulgaria).

Each civ will have Spearman/Pikeman, Swordsman/Infantry, Archer, and Cavalry specific to their culture grouping. Their also will be Catapults, Balistae, Rocket carts, and Trebuchets, as well as crossbowman and possibly culturally specific naval units.

There will be several unique units as well
Mamluk
Rider (Sheng ch'uan)
Samurai
War Elephants
Explorers (Venice)
Assasins
Teutonic Knights
Crusaders

If anyone has other ideas or unit graphics it would be greatly appreciated

Besides the ones kinboat did I do not belive any other mongol units have been made.

That is already a few, if you add that to the keshik. But actually aaglo made a fine Mongol transport ship for the invasion of China, provided the Mongols reach the sea. It is only minor of course but it is here.

You are familiar with Kinboat's Mongol Horde units ?
Yes I am, his units are only good for light cavalry though. The units I probably already have are marked with a *-

Asian Spearman
Asian Swordsman
Asian Archer
Asian Horseman* (Rider)
Samurai*
Sheng Ch'uan
Junk

Islamic Spearman
Islamic Swordsman* (Immortal)
Islamic Archer
Islamic Horseman* (Ansar Warrior)
Mamluk*
Ascaris
Assassin*
Dhow

Hindu Spearman
Hindu Swordsman
Hindu Archer
Hindu Horseman
War Elephant*

European Spearman* (Pikeman)
European Infantry* (Medieval Infantry)
European Archer* (Longbowman)
Knight*
Crusader*
Teutonic Knight*
Varangian Guard* (Beserk)
Cataphract* (Ancient Cavalry)
Galley*
Explorer*
Dromon*

Oh yeah forgot about that one.

About the junk. TVA22 (?) made one then a civ-colored sails version was done. + Tongkang + turtle ship have been made if they interest you (turtle ship might be too late for you though as much as the Chinese treasure ship is).

Turtleships are a bit late but that Junk will do fine. Also I will need some sort of Middle Eastern naval unit.

This i what I truly covet most of all. The fearsome Mongol Heavy Cavalry. They use lances instead of bows unlike the light cavalry.

These are actually the Keshiks, but the Keshiks were mostly heavy cavalry anyway.

Embryodead did a simple but nice dhow (Indian-Arab ship) that would do fine (check http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?threadid=41777). It was used in the Western half of the Indian ocean and probably down to Indonesia too.
About the heavy cavalry you need to ask one of the real unit creators such as Kinboat, Kindred, Embryodead or Utahjazz, maybe directly, especially if your mod is already advanced.

What about using utahjazz7's Persian Cataphract?

Actually that's more Kinboat's. Utah's ones (and Kryten's modifs) are more Byzantine and Armenian.
But I would advise against its use : 1/ because you will probably need it for Persia. 2/ because the Mongol one is actually quite different, the helmet especially.

The "yellow" one by Kryten, is that the Horse Archer? Wich runs while attacking? That's quite a nice unit actually...

Nope this is his Scythian horse archer, one of his earlier units actually.

BTW I thought I heard something about a mod-moderated (sic) unit library. Any news on that ?

Utahjazz made a Cataphract, Kryten made to more versions, a Cataphratari (Roman Cataphract, as opposed to Byzantium), and an Eastern Cataphract (Parthian/Seleucid Cataphract).

There's five cataphracts on CFC I believe:

Byzantine Cataphract (unit conversion from AOE2: AOK)

Byzantine Cataphract (by utahjazz7?)
Roman Cataphractari (by utahjazz7 & Kryten)
Eastern Cataphract (by utahjazz7 & Kryten)

Heavy Cataphract (by Kinboat?) aka: Clibanari Horseman

sounds cool, i wonder if anybody has made A hun Conquest, following Atilla the Hun's march on Rome?

The fall of Rome in Conquests is pretty much that.

Also there is a lot of talk about Cataphracts but at this point Cataphracts are not really appropriate in this timeframe. The Byzantines in this scenario are a small remanant of their former self (They don't even control Constantinople). One of the other empires that used catapharacts, the Persians has fallen. Iran is dominated by the Turkish in origin Khwarazmian shah. So cataphracts wouldn't really fit Khwarazm.

Here's what it looks like, if you want to use it for something else
