Then the next turn, the inevitable happens. I lose a town in the west and the Dutch can stream in without any resistance.
At the same time the enemy drops around 15 units at the shores and I won't have the means to defend. A huge Byzantine stack is just inches away from our borders.
Carthage knights enter the frail and in the east more gigantic Aztec stacks move in and pillage.
In the picture you can see Replacement town surviving on a single redlined Cav after the Americans came out of the fog to attack with 5 cavs...
At the bottom of the picture you can see a Carthage merc dropped where 10 more units await (and I got maybe 3 attackers there)
I decide to throw in the towel and give up
I did not underestimate the AI, but I underestimated the power of PP. This tech comes very early on DG. One cannot handle the AI agression with so many enemies at the same time. Soon I would get more landings from overseas which I am not able to clear.
I will try again with a different Civ, PP not enabling selling of contacts and the UN victory disabled as well...
