Well, I think I'm going to give the Chieftain level another shot. I haven't find any good map yet, so there isn't much to talk about. As for the game spec: I'm thinking of having one big happy continent in C3C v1.15 with 8 other scientific civs; domination limit of at least 3800 or higher. I will play the Mayan, of course. My goal will be to give away all my techs at the end of each age in hope to gain all 9 free techs (3 for each new age) from the AIs.:)

More later....

What happened to your Sid run?

In that Sid game, I have about 200 cavalries around 800AD in 14 armies (my Military Academy was in full production and I was building new army in every 6 turns), I'm sure I will reach the domination limit within about 40 more turns. However, I'm kind of feeling guilty on I did to get there. Basically, I made a lot of gpt upfront for some big loans from the AIs and didn't pay them back (I emptied most of their treasuries in the process) to help fund my doomdays armies. Although Aeson allowed this in the HoF (see his rule thread), it's kind of unfair to other players like SirPleb who's fighting an honorable war and didn't break any treaties with the AIs. Therefore, I think it would be best if I void that game. I will definitely try again with patch 1.20 in a more honorable approach (beside, I really like the trading business and I can't trade much with that bad reps; therefore, no fun and no motivation to continue).

Why not?;) Since the AIs are so weak anyway, I probably go to war with them really early and give them each a palace in the middle of iceland for them to retire - problem solved! They all can stay alive all the way until 2050 AD.:)

I think it'll be interesting to compare your chieftain game to mine, since we're both playing as the Mayans. Only you'll be playing a panqaea map, while I'm playing on an archipelago map....

But, IMHO, the Mayans have one very big disadvantage. Their traits give you an automatic GA, as soon as you build the Pyramids, resulting in a very early GA (in my game anyway).

I just reviewed Bremp's top Chieftain game, he was playing as an American on the pangaea map. His domination limit was around 37?? something, but with a lot of green (grassland). Therefore, I think I may be able to top that if I can find a pangaea map with a domination limit of at least 3800 with the Mayan and 8 other scientific civs. As for the Pyramid, I don't plan to build it until after I have about 10 productive cities or after I discover Writing. I'm planning to use my golden age to put up as many library and prebuild for the market.

Btw, I have played a few until around 1000 BC and haven't yet found one that I'm willing to go all the way yet. With MapFinder running every night, I'm going to get something good soon.;)

Its wierd but now that I have surpassed chieftain (play mostly monarch, some emperor/regent), I find it hard to go back. In some ways I have a tough time. I've gotten used to letting the AI research for me or just popping hundreds of huts. I tried the Ottomans on chieftain and I was lost. Yes I can beat the AI at building wonders, troops, discovering new techs yet I had trouble trying to balance it all. On monarch and above the AI does the research which allows me to pump most of my money into an army and just demand techs (or trade for them with my immense cash investment).

Ohwell goodluck

Wow... That is so gonna beat my Cheiftain attempt at it... lol... I am at, let see, 1772s, and my score is 1198. However, I will be making it to the cheiftain HoF simply because the current only Space ship vic is at 1500 points... I will beat that by the time I get to space ships, as I am milking the map as we speak, but now, I cant really decide whether to attack anyone :(

Since the domination limit in C3C is 0.6% smaller than in vanilla and PTW, it's tough to find good map. After 2 days of running MapFinder, it found only 4 for my criteria of mininum of 17 food+1 bonus and domination limit of at least 3550. I just happened to pick this one out of the bundles of 4 is becuase it has both wheat and cow at the starting position:

At 1000BC, I had only about 14 little towns. Because I'm preparing for a palace jump, my expansion was slowing down quite a bit.

Since luxuy resource is very rare (I noticed that it's usually rare in C3C), I decided to go for Bach. I also focused on the search for Democracy first. Screenshot at 10AD, been building a lot of universities in my core cities and Prebuild wonder for Bach and Adam Smith. I see no need for the Hanging Garden is because it's probably going to expire by the time I finish it.

Around 800 AD or so, I got a scientific leader and use him to rush the Newton's University. My Pyramid was done at 310 BC and it triggered the gold age for my Mayan.

Some latest screenshots (900AD is where I'm at):

So far, I haven't gone to war on anyone yet (not even a fake war for demanding cities). It was very unlikely of me becuase I normally would have demand at least a dozen more cities to add to my empire. Since I'm currently about 2000 points behide Bremp's top HoF game around 900AD, I don't think this game can beat the top HoF score, but it's time I will go all the way to see what happen.:) Will see if that domination limit of 4350 mean anything in the end.;)

PS: Although my map setting was archipelago, I was luck out a little bit on this one becuase my island was huge and it ran over the entire map.

It will be very interesting indeed to see whether you can gain back the score difference by the high domination limit. Good luck!

@Moonsinger: How on earth can you play so fast? I started my own chieftain game at least 2-3 weeks ago and I'm only in 700 AD, and you started this game this week (or something like that?) and you're already in 900 AD.

Side note: I'm already comparing my game to yours, to see if I can learn some more of your tricks... :)

I was just playing a very fast game! No tricks! I didn't talk much to the AIs and I didn't even demand cities from the AIs. Since it's not really an optimal game, I'm just going to say that the final score will be around 1000 points less than the maximum potential score on this map.;)

In my entire history of playing Civ, I have the most fun in this game. In fact, I was actually a tech leader at the beginning of the Middle Age around 430 BC and I was the only one that isn't scientific in the game. How is it possible? There I was...about 1 tech tree behide everyone else...then I met 7 other AIs civs and since each island was separated by ocean, the AIs didn't cross until Navigation. That leave me to be the only tech dealer in town.:) Anyway, here is a sneak preview of the current score:

PS: I'm still milking the Chieftain game in this thread...it will be done soon.;)

And how's that one going? What score do you expect to get?

The sid game looks fun too... :)

I haven't really looked at the score lately. In fact, I have absolutely no idea what I get or going to get. Since I figure it's not going to beat your current game or Bremp's game, if I look at the apathetic score, I may not motivate enough to for a full milk.:(
