I know this is kind of an obvious post, but i think that Civ 3 has an appaling lack of city names, and all civs should have alot more, even if they're just little villages in real life. Since i play as England most often, its not so bad, because when Civ runs out of names, i just get a road book, and search for some stuff, but it still gets quite annoying seeing "New London" "New Canterbury" and it seems even worse to me when i see a computer player with dozens of "New -----" or "----- 2" and i've seen names with 4 at the end of it.
I think the devs ought to send ppl out to different countries, and record names of places, because im sure there'll be plenty more than enough to get a good game without me having to hunt through the pages of road books to get a decent name.

they're just city names, this is only a cosmetic change. the devolpersneed to spend thier time on gameplay, not on stuff like this. New London works just as well as Derby

ok though i think this shouldnt matter that much i think they should give each civ at least 20 good names and figure a better way to make crap names then BERLIN 2, i can handle New Berlin but 2 thats horrible but i wouldnt mind this if the game was really good in all other areas

I agree. Seeing Neo Washington, or even worse, Moscow 2 is really, really...stupid! If you look on a map you don't see Kyoto 2 and Neo Athens, right?

I'm thankful for the New ___ system. Better than Civ2.

I agree they could give that a little more thought. But ive always wonderd.Do they have new new york for the america civ? i dont play as them much so i wouldnt know.Is it new new york? or do the just go to new york 2?

How hard is it to add cities on your own? I can't stand the short lists. About the only thing worse than Berlin 2 would be Berlin, The Sequel.

Then I guess I'll have to continue keeping lists next to me so I can choose a new name whenever I create a city. Argh! :wallbash:

I'd like to see a very little logic factor applied to city names; like you could have city sub-lists, which might mean that coastal cities might take from a different list, or colony-type names, which are taken from if you build on another country.

So for Britain it could be
London
Manchester
Oxford
Nottingham
*Portsmouth
*Liverpool
**Washington
**New York
etc etc.

Mainly this would be a modding tool though, so you might be able to add extra little names to coastal cities like "Port" or "Harbour"...

thats not a bad idea.port washington sounds alot better than washington 2.But don't you think that once you run out of city names it's time you start taking others?unless your germany or zululand, they have very little names
