Almost every turn the Portugese have been sending me a galleon loaded with four cavs, and three or four frigates. Sometimes they send a whole pile of 8 or 12 at once. (They are commie, and industrialized, and very angry with me.
)
I discovered the most efficient way to sink them is to trap them against the coast and bombard them with frigates and cannon - then have the Dromons go in for the kill. The frigates reduce the enemy fleet to the last hit point making them an easy kill for the Dromons lethal bombardment.
Since all the attacks are bombardments, and the frigates wont leave the galleon unescorted - you don't lose any ships to an unlucky roll of the dice. If you dont have enough dromons to sink the whole fleet in one turn, you just send the rest to the bottom on the next turn. If you dont trap them, they run away. ( And frigates are faster than dromons) Cowards! Love those dromons.
