I thought it would be helpful to share a bit more insight as to how the staged discussion processes are being managed in the background.
We are trying to let the players set the pace an tone of discussions for any GOTM game. Its your game and you should be able to shape the experience. Discussion is one of the ways you can contribute.
We are now monitoring the spoiler discussion threads and making a rough classification of the different posts as they fit into 5 major categories:
The intent of the stage spoiler threads is to give players a few days to play at least far enough into the game to complete a phase of game play and then THINK ABOUT IT and talk about what has already been done. Talking to your self is not as much value as talking with someone else who may be knowledgeable about the game, so that is why you see some steps in the time periods when the Spoiler threads open.
Some players want to make a mad sweaty dash to get to the end of the game and play with nukes and stealth bombers. If this is your style of play then have at it, but what the process in the spoiler threads is designed to do is to encourage you to think of at least one of two elements of you play in the earlier phases of the game where you could look to improve your play skills so that you can have more nukes and more stealth bombers if those are the things you like.
Here is a graphic image displaying what the profile of discussion looked like the week before submissions for Gotm15-Russia closed and before we released the Qsc15 results. At the time of this graph we were sitting at 450+ total participant events in the discussion and since that time we are up to well over 600.
The key point of this graph is to show you that we are tracking how the discussions proceed and then using the discussion as one of the signals that you as the players may be ready to move on to the next stage. Screaming, begging, whining and otherwise pleading to open the next spoiler thread has little effect compared to getting with the program and finding interesting concepts to discuss in the currently available range of discussion options.
If you look at the graph above, you can see that we are looking for signals in the number of Reports, Short Reports, and Active discussions that have occurred in the Early spoiler thread before we open the next phase of discussion.
We are also using active feedback and assessment of the game play that we see discussed in the "Early" spoiler to determine where the next phase of the discussion should extend to.
So recognize how this process is dependent on you as the players and the participants. If more players are reporting game events and progress and then participating in the discussions, then you will see the subsequent discussion threads open and progress in a very distinct pattern.

- Detailed Reports (Timelines, more than just a few paragraphs + Screen Shots
- Short Reports (several paragraphs or single topics)
- One-Liners (could be more that one line.)
- Off Topic (disciplinary issues, admin, etc.)
- Discussion (interplay of Q&A or discussion of Strategy and Tactics)
