More Luxuries

Sorry, many users cannot dl steam workshop things. May you place it here or at dropbox for example, please?

Not this mod, but the beliefs containing one.

Thank you very much for updated version of the ML mod and the Beliefs.

Barathor, may I adopt your old Cocoa trees and your coffee art? I think the Cocoa trees would make good pomegranate trees and I wanted to alter the coffee to make cranberries.

Hey Barathor, would it be possible for you to upload the files for Tin and Ebony necessary to optionally reincorporate them into the More Luxuries file? I remember you mentioning when you first removed Tin that you would leave the files in still in case anybody wanted to optionally put it back in their game, but I tried looking for them and couldn't find them, so I wasn't sure if you had maybe removed them entirely or I just didn't look hard enough, haha. I wasn't sure of the same for Ebony either, so I thought I'd ask.

Where do you put the Tin and Ebony resources to get them to work in the game?

You'll want to write them into AssignStartingPlots.lua to implement them. Just search through it for an existing resource of the same type for examples.

Also, you'll want to add the images to your own DDS atlases for the icon and fonticon.

I have the XML already written out in each resource's folder, just make sure to update the name of the atlas and the image's location within it. Just look for the comments within it that say "Update this".

Also, I just checked, and noticed that I forgot to place the XML in the folder for the tin resource. I'll reupload that now.

Do you have new resources planned for this pack?

I believe Barathor has stated before that he wouldn't be adding any new luxuries and would really only be updating the luxury coding aspect, but that was a few months ago, and obviously I don't mean to speak for him. :)

Hemp crops, please.

Maybe... :mischief:

Stepping away from things for a while often gives a fresh new perspective and allows for more ideas.

I'm going to remove Perfume, as I have other plans for it (hmm... maybe I'll divulge things about that in the next post) and I also want "rawer" goods taken from the terrain. Though, I'll post up the icon and pretty flower graphics like I did with Tin and Ebony.

I'm also going to add three more luxuries, which increases the default number by 50%, for a nicer looking grand total of 30.

Ebony: I'm going to add this one back, but I'm going to try to make it improved by a camp rather than a plantation. Plus, I just really dig the icon.

Lapis Lazuli: New; and it's not another plantation luxury! I'm still considering whether to name it "Lapis Lazuli" or the abbreviated "Lapis". All other resources are a single word, so to have a two word title irks me a little bit. Also, yes, I know the meaning of the words.

and I'm sure this one will be popular:

Cannabis: New! There may be some stigma associated with this, but I feel it's silly. Especially with all the other slightly controversial resources and things which already exist in the game (and added with this mod). I'm going with the broader, more natural term to represent both its recreational, medicinal, and religious side and also its industrial side with hemp fibers and such. I'll keep the icon classy (it won't be a joint or anything) much like I tried to do with the Tobacco resource. Luckily, it'll be easier since the leaves are much more iconic than tobacco leaves.

I also kept my Pantheons mod in mind and will make some updates to it as well:

Divine Sculpture becomes Spiritual Carvings. Instead of Faith, it'll reward Culture. Ebony will take the place of Marble, and will be alongside Jade and Ivory.

Earth Mother will lose Salt and will gain Lapis, which will be alongside Marble and Stone.

Religious Holidays (always hated this name) becomes Goddess of the Hearth. Salt will take the place of Cocoa, and will be alongside Sugar and Spices. These all are common cooking ingredients, and hearths were originally for cooking along with heating homes. Plus, in a way, I feel cooking is closely tied to domestic life and family too.

God of Festivals will lose Dye and gain Cannabis, which will be alongside Wine and Tobacco. I feel this is much more fitting since, for example, the Greek god, Dionysus, also represents ecstasy and intoxication.

Ceremonial Garments becomes Ceremonial Dance instead. Furs will be removed and Dyes will take its place, alongside Silk and Cotton.

Rain Dances becomes Rainmaking Rituals instead.

Favor of the Gods becomes Goddess of Love again with the same original ability, and the belief which granted bonuses to Perfume, Wine, and Gems is removed (I always thought it was a little cheesy anyway... I just needed a place to squeeze Perfume in).

Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! At least cannabis :D Thanks a lot :).

Yay, you took gave a look into another of my suggestions! :D I am looking forward to how you plan to do Lapis Lazuli, and maybe the pictures of the lapis stones can provide some inspiration for a really cool icon. Also, Ebony should've been a camp resource from the beginning, haha; it makes much more sense, though not as much as a lumbermill - but seeing as lumbermills come with Construction (which was already brought out as semi-problematic earlier in the thread), plus they don't have any existing resources using it to base making a new resource from, so camps are a good compromise.

Now I just need to see Maple as a camp resource (Maple makes the most sense, actually, because of the syrup, and the maplewood itself makes as much sense for camps as ebony does), and I'd feel all bubbly (Olives, Maple, Lapis Lazuli, and Jade; Jade's mentioned last because I wasn't the first to bring it up and it was implied you were already working on it due to how fast you came around with the post about adding Jade after my post, but I still put a lot of effort into that analysis, haha), but not boastful, because I'm chill.

:P Haha, but more seriously, I can't wait to see the new resources and Ebony reintegrated, and I'm very curious as to what you have planned for Perfume that necessitated its removal from More Luxuries but apparently put it into something else. Also, on a small aside (because I may as well ramble some more), I remembered that you had made a Coral icon and was like "did he remove Coral at some point?", until I realized that you never added ultimately added it to begin with. I wish Coral and Pinnipeds were able to be made (especially Pinnipeds, since they're be infinitely harder because of the whole 3d-animals-moving-around stuff). You could do Coral and Maple and make the number an evenly-divisible 32!

Okay, that's all my excitement for this announcement, haha. A quick question for you Barathor, though: Since Perfume is being removed as a luxury (officially) for the time-being, will Dyes go back to the way they were previously?

If coral and maple are going to be included, so why not do the same with flax?
