Way back when, you used to be able to see your Civ's accomplishments at the end game - literacy 75%, disease 10%, etc.

I think it would be interesting if cIV incorporated a more comprehensive education model. The more educated your people are, not only should your science output increase, but your people would be less willing to be subjugated under, say, a Despotic Ruler.

Not sure how Civics is going to work in cIV, but maybe they're already planning this.

Heck, if a SMAC-style government/society/culture system is added, then perhaps the more educated your populace, the more resistant they would be to certain policies. And perhaps to control this (to your will) you could implement 'propaganda' (like North Korea, Red China, Cold War US/Russia) to steer the people into a certain direction, or to make them more willing to accept a new policy.

Who says misinformation is only a tool to be used against other nations? :king: :goodjob:

I'm sure you all can expand upon this and turn it into an even better idea. And so saying, please, let loose the dogs of war!

i think education should be broadened abit to increase researching techs. but then again who needs education when u have the worlds greatest war machine...

That would be you, to get the world's greatest war machine in the first place.

Think about it. It was the eggheads to created spears, then swords, then bows, then guns and bombs, then jets, then nukes, now it's the eggheads developing the bioweapons, the chemical weapons, and the antimatter weapons, it's the eggheads developing the spacecraft and the hypersonic jets.

I agree, I would like to see education given more of a role. And of course, various things would influence it, but it would interesting to see how first printing, then telegraphs and radio, and then TV and lastly the Internet could affect things. Each one broadens the possible access to information.#

Edit: I use 'eggheads' in the most affectionate way possible.

actually i know eggheads role in society. It was shortly after hitler took control over germany that he had books, and libaries torched, for reasons that he thought that a pure military state would outlast an educated state. surely in the end, as we all know, he was wrong.

The Orwellian State concept is not so much the flaw as Hitler himself. If anything contributed to the failure of Nazi Germany in WWII, it was the management. Hitler encourage the 'divid and rule' paradigm within his administration, leading to a type of internal rivalry that was very counterproductive. In area after area the principles of the organization nullified the immense industrial and scientific power of the Third Reich.

Or course over time an Orwellian State would have one of two difficulties. First is a failure to completely eliminate opposition within the structure and cause a revolution. Second is the fact that their innovation would be so poor compared to many other types of states as to lose in the eventual arms race.
