More on aircraft

i know the f-117 is a bomber, but i think itll be used as a fighter in the game. really, i dont know of any stealth fighters, so how could there be one used properly. someone tell me if there is one made by a different country

Ok, I registered for the sole purpose of clearing this up. The F-117 Nighthawk, is a multi-role aircraft. (Its a fighter/bomber). The B-2 Spirit, is an intercontinental heavy bomber. The F-22 Raptor, the the most advanced plane in the entire world, is the newest addition to the stealth family. The F-22 is a stealth fighter created by the United States, and is eons more advanced than the F-117, and SHOULD have been the stealth fighter in the game.:)

yeah how come a french speaking person couldnt see the difference between a french Mirage and a Rafale ??? :))

The F-117 is primary use as a fighter since they got the B-2. The B-2 first appear in the sky of Irak, and then in Kosovo, in 1998. The F-117 is a bit older.

As for the Su-47, even if he got good qualities, he totaly suck in stabilyty since is wing are reverse comparativly to "normal" plane like the F-15.

Mikoyan:

You're right about the swept forward wings making the Su-47 more maneuverable. They are intended to make the plane inherently unstable, so that it can turn and twist and do all sorts of interesting stuff. The only problem is that this means that the control system must be highly computerized just to keep it in the air.

The bomber picture you posted up looks like a Tupolev Tu-22 Backfire bomber. It might have been a cool addition to the game as a jet bomber (what with being supersonic and all), but people would have got it confused with the american B-1 all the time, so what would have been the point?

StormFront:

You're right about the F-117 not being a fighter, I don't have any idea why they've put it in Civ 3 when they have the B-2. It should have been the F-22, which is what the Stealth Fighter in Civ2 looks like.

With only 60+ units in the game it is doubtful that they have much more than 2 sets of fighter/bombers. One conventional and one stealth pair. I am hopeful that they also have a propeller driven fighter and perhaps a torpedo bomber (or B52) so that we get 3 sets (+1 unique for the U.S. the F15) Curious to see is we get the Apache and troop chopper (Blackhawk?)

There are certainly a stealth fighter and a prop fighter (a spitfire, I think). There also is a multi-role chopper good for light attack, transport, and sub hunts, which might as well be a Blackhawk. Also, it appears that there is some sort of jet fighter under rocketry. Perhaps most civs get the Mig here while America gets the F-15.

Perhaps they will be able to target specific buildings.

Smart Weapons lets you destroy specific improvments.

 I can't believe they did not keep the F-22 from Civ2...
and though I don't have anything against Cossacks, it would be just nice to have another modern air unit (i.e. Mig or Su-47)...

anyone here who's planning to make F-22 & Mig/Su-47, PLEASE contact me..........I'm just too lazy and incompetent to make 3-D graphics or animated gif;)

Why Firaxis team don't have put specials units for specifics Ages of time.(like one for modern, one for industrial)
That situation make me sick!

It won't rule nothing but a test lab unless Russian Fed can afford to build em! A very nice plane though!!!:goodjob:

I think the F117 was used to represent the stealth fighter because it visually look correct in the game, keep in mind that CIv rewrites history. EG: When Rome builds it's strealth planes they might be fighters, instead of the real-world bomber role that the US had in mind.

By the way, anyone know if CIV III will have WW2 era piston-engine fighters and bombers, any pics of these?

I assume the air development will be similar to CIV II?

See you all in the skies!:goodjob:

Hmm.. the plain fighter units in the game looks like the mig would have, and i will definetely make the Su-47 my stealth fighter!

And by the way, the russian government has already pre-ordered 40 of the fighter/attack planes, and they might be delivered 2003-2005.

LOL! Now, if they can only find computers to stabilize the plane... but they'll only be there by 2010 :goodjob:
