skree, I apologize for taking two days to find time to look through your stuff and comment. I certainly also regret having to give graphics that each surely took a lot of time and work so little individual attention- but this is a lot of stuff to react to at once.
Maniac, I think I like skree’s changes to the Templar logos better than the originals.
All the difference I notice for the Spartans is the landscape, and I have some trouble making out what it’s supposed to be…
I like the stadium bases used for the Ghosts, but don’t follow the logic of the (NYC?) landscape choice.
With your Genesis, you already know I like the way-cool floating mecha-thing you used as leader. The bases are neat, but as Maniac says, look a bit grown, and therefore maybe not the best match for a floating brain confined to a metal carapace. I believe I deserve no credit for the bases, but aren’t the logos a recolor of the caretaker ones I did? (One reason to be meticulous about credit is that when you do so many faction graphics, it can become difficult to keep track of what you’ve done- so I’m actually asking.) At any rate, I’d rather not accept credit for your lovely bases.
With your Gaians, the difference I see is the shields. While the Progenitor shields are easier to work with, and IMO a bit nicer-looking, from a game-story standpoint, I don’t know that giving them to a human faction is a good idea. (The Bree are an escaped prog experiment, after all; they might have come by them that way... The story-telling aspect is an important part of the art- I’ve had a lot of great background details arise from my impression of portraits I’ve labored over.
I don’t notice anything new about your Empaths. See my previous remarks about this graphic.
…Same for the Bree. I still like your improvments to the logo.
Again, I like your new Believers leader. When I submitted a pretty redhead for Darsnan’s splinter Believers, the Conclave it took me a few days to talk him into it- though now he names her as one of his favorites. Sometimes good storytelling has nuance, and I think the Miriam portrait is just a bit of an unsubtle piling-on.
I don’t see why an attractive woman with a bad attitude couldn’t be in charge. This fits the bill nicely. The figure is a good size in the frame, and about the right level of realism. Maybe, just maybe, she would be better if you reduced the color level a little and made it a bit darker to match the official factions more closely- but I’m not sure it’s even worth going to the trouble. I may well steal this portrait for something before too long; it’s very nice, pleasant to look at, and a good choice for the faction, in my book.
I think your Atlantis faction is the same except for those interesting bases of yours- I really need to break down and playtest this graphic to see how they look in the game.
Wow. That is a really striking leaderhead you dropped into your Data Angels. I can definitely see her getting stolen in the future. I can’t quite put a finger on what you did to the bases, but I think you did something to the color of the darker parts, and they look good.
I. Love. The diplomacy landscape you came up with here. It’s just dynamite. Very right for the hacker faction. I fancy my alt. Angels leader can whip your alt. Angels leader, but your bases are a bit better-looking and your landscape wins hands-down. Full marks, sir. Shake your own hand for me.
skree, you should post your non-SMAniaC stuff in the [graphics] thread, or better, start your own thread. Your work is worthy of showcasing. The community isn’t bursting with artists, and you’re burying your stuff posting it all here.
I would love it if you’d tell me more about your artistic process in the [graphics] thread, too…
