Ok, I'm far from being a quartermaster, but I am aiming my current games in this direction. I do not own C3C, so all games are done in [ptw]

Analysis:
I don't expect my Tiny Chieftain Domination to last long. My Tiny Cheiftain Conquests have already dropped off the list thanks to the the Maya. I won't be getting back on that list without C3C so I will have to plan a conquest at a different map size and difficulty.
Edit: Tiny Chieftain Dom dropped from list.

My Tiny Warlord 100K will not ultimately last as I have to go 30 turns longer than someone on C3C would go as I had to get to 100K instead of 60K.

I'm on vacation in May and will see about getting some of the other areas filled.

Current Published Standings
Tiny Warlord 100K - #1 - Iroqoius
Tiny Warlord Domination - #3 - Aztecs
Huge Chieftain 20K - #2 - Babylon

Current Submitted Games
None

Games I'm contemplating
Regent Small Milk
Emperor Large Space Ship
PTW Deity Tiny/Small Conquest

Games I've generated maps for
Monarch Standard Diplo - 80% Water, Pelego, Warm, Wet, 4 Bil, Russia. 6 non-sci, non-exp AIs.
Thoughts - Sci pace is slow on Monarch with little help from AIs. I am the only Sci or Exp civ so I've got a start on IW while I hopefully contact 1 or 2 victims. After IW I head straight to MM and then Republic. Initial city will probably build Scout>Granary>Settler.
Map Finder Rule #1: 1 or more cows
Rule #2: 1 or more 5food
Rule #3: 2 or more deer.
I will play at least long enough to determine if fresh water is available near the start. Maybe next time I will include a fresh water > 0 and be a bit more picky on the maps.

Games Just Completed
Huge Chieftain 20K - 80% Water, Pelego, Babylon, 8 non-sci, non-rel AIs. Sub-goal: don't let the AI build any wonders. I've reached about 10 AD or so. I have built: Temple, Collosus, Pyramids, Oracle, Great Light House, and Library. I am currently researching Republic which will complete before the Great Library triggers my Golden Age. So far each civ is on an island by themselves. They taught me: IW, WC, TW, & HBR. I've given the Mongols Myst hoping that they will research Poly and Monarchy. No AI has even gotten a chance to start a wonder after I completed Collossus and Pyramids. I don't yet have enough cities for the FP and I haven't done any war yet. I have one city claiming Spices on the Mongol Island which is connected by coastal tiles but does not yet have a harbor. It doesn't look like any other Luxes will be available until I can trade on ocean tiles. 20% Lux keeps my 20K city happy, but I will head to Hanging Gardens as soon as available.

I've started and abandoned about 10 games with this setting due to bad 20K locations.

Edit: Submitted with a poor 1778 date that would have been #1, but Denniz submitted a better date.

PTW does have its benefit because you can enjoy the Rings and the beauty of your Palace Ranking.:) Come to think about it...a Deity 20K game may be best played in PTW.

I submitted by Huge Chief 20K and was beat to the #1 spot.

I have now rolled starts for Monarch Standard Diplo.

I'm going to start Mapfinder with a restrictive rule for the Regent Small Milk:
3+ Cattle and Fresh Water. I'll let it run for a while and then add a Dom Limit check that must be 90% of the max limit found up to that point.

I suggest the following minimum domination limits for small maps:
pangaea--1080
continents--1175
archipelago--1346
:)

edit: good luck in your quest.

With the new version of MapFinder (the new version was out a few days ago), you can have more than one set of rules. Just have one very restrictive rule set for your milk run and many other sets for fast finishes.

I'm using the version of MF and have used multiple rule sets for finding my maps. The only problem with playing the Quartermaster Challenge is that nearly every game is on a different difficulty and map size. Even the civ and AI opponents are tailored to make the best of a target victory condition.

The only time I am playing a high domination limit will be for my Milk game or for 100K. For the rest I want a low domination limit to speed game play.

Low domination limit is much better choice for fast game because we would most likely get a start with at least 4 cows plus another half dozens near by. It seems to me that the Map Generator allocates ahead of time x number of each type of resources for each map size. Less land, more water usually yield very good starting location.

I thought lower domination didnt get you many less land tiles, just a more concentrated one, so less coastal.
As domination limit goes down, continents become circular...
I thought it was something like that, and that certainly is my experience with tiny, pangea with most water...

You are correct. I don't track total land tiles when I'm building a huge milk game data base but the the coast tiles go up as the domination limit increases and the land gets more convoluted. The only fly in the ointment is inland seas which count as coast tiles so you could get a relatively round continent with lots of inland seas and a still a high domination limit. For a milk game inland seas are bad because you get a 2 food coast tiles without the free sea tiles that are possible on a true coast.

So if Moonsinger's other hypothesis is true (the number of ressources per map size is constant), then the domination limit shouldnt matter for the chance of a "lots of cows" start, only the amount of water (with more water=better starts), and maybe choice of climate etc...

You might be right for a particular set of settings. It will make a difference (I think) whether you choose 60%/80% water though. I think the number of resources are the same for either, so with 80% water the resources would be much more concentrated.

Yes that is exactly what I said.
Ooops, so you did . Just ignore me when I say anything stupid, that way I'll appear a lot more intelligent than I really am ;).
