I have been running civ2 (2.42) with no problems for years. Monday I believe I hit some keys by accident and turned off the mouse movement function. A second option is I also tested a friends new keyboard and that messed up something when I switched back to mine.

The precise problem is when a piece is active and I click the left-mouse button on a space I want them to move to the little bent arrow does NOT appear and the piece wont move. I can move them one space at a time with the straight arrow keys, REAL PAIN. When I hold down shift the bent cursor will appear as usual, but I dont want to hold the shift key down forever.

I've tried uninstall/reinstall. And I have fast piece slide and move units w/mouse selected in the game options.

Thanks fro any help.

I run Civ II on Win XP, ASUS P4T-E MB, 1 gig RDRAM, 2ghz Pent IV processor, 512mb Radeon 9000 Grap card. The mouse is a logitech mx700 using ps/2 port.

Did the Logitech come with extra software? Try uninstalling and reinstalling that. Sometimes the extra software supports "hot-key" functions that conflict with base DOS operations.

Yeah it did, good idea. But, I tried that and still have the problem. I'm running out of idea here. call me perplexed.

Some of these keyboard/mouse programs allow you to program "hot-keys", and some let you reset the defaults. Check the docs on your system and mouse to see if there are keyboard "hot-key" reassignments, and if so see if they have a "return to default" option. otherwise, call me perplexed too.

BTW, you can often simulate the diagonal arrow keys by using Home, End, PgUp and PgDn.

yeah, i noticed that. I dont have a problem moving diagonal. I just hate having to move one space at a time. I've totally switched to another keyboard, from logitech to microsoft and still have the problem. It may be some mouse issue. Ill keep trying things.

"little bent arrow"?

Do you mean the little arrows you get with mouse movement checked? But with those you can only move one square at a time too.

Or do you mean the "Go to" arrow (arrow with GO written under it)? (you don't need the "move with mouse" thing for that) The way to use that is click and hold till the cursor turns into the arrow, point to whichever square you want to go to and release.

Where exactly does the Shift key come into play? I've certainly never heard of having to use the Shift key for that... *fires up Civ2* Ooh! If you Shift-click you also get the Go to behaviour. I didn't know that.

So it's the clicking and holding that doesn't work?
Maybe that could have something to do with the mouse or Windows accessibility settings. Those things like double-click speed etc. Not sure what other options there are again.
