Every once in a while I have a problem hearing the sound in a movie that I downloaded. I have the latest DivX codecs installed and I am now downloading the Nimo codec pack 5.0 build 8. Anybody got any other suggestions?

Download and install the old DivX codecs as well such as 3.x and whatever, I had the same problem with a copy of Dogma and even though 5.whatever asks if I wanted it to support older formats it decided to do it in its own way.

Not Kazaa....that is a bad place to get quality movies. DC++ is the way to go.

I have the same problem. I have to play all my avi's on divx player because on media player, there's usually no picture, just sound. Or, the picture becomes all jerky like it's having a spasm. It works perfectly on divx player. I have all the latest codecs and everything.

I always use the Global DivX player, with the Nimo pack. I havent had any problems with any movies since.

FYI:
_ DC++/DC stand for Direct Connect, a P2P client program. I myself got the horse into using this freeware and now he has become a DC evangelist too :D
http://www.neo-modus.com for the original DC website
http://www.wewp.com/platform/dc/756/ for the alternate one, but learn that lots of hubs admins hate DC++ and can ban you so be careful.

_ Back to the codecs problem: there's a wonderful, amazing, fantastic (etc...) freeware called.. ahem... :blush: GSpot. No, it's not about XXX movies at all! It's an utility that scans, and look at an AVI file deep deep deep inside (;)) to tell you whhich codec was used to encode it. There's a video codec window and a sound codec one. It'll even tell you whether the a^ppropriate codec is installed on your machine! Great isn't it, plus it's free. It's one of the must-have divx tool. Period.
If only other Gspot were free too :rolleyes: :groucho: ;)

PS: Ah, forgot to tell you, BS Player is told to be the greates player ever, even better than divx playa. Plus, it can play subtitle (.srt for instance)

Am I the only one who's suspicious about this DC thing, don't the spam the hell outta ya, or pump your comp with spyware?

Also, can you reach higher download speeds than Kazaa?

pffff there's no spyware in DC! On the other hand Emule is not that secure: I learnt that in Denmark (read on a computer magazine website) users of emule received a letter telling them what warez they downloaded from emule, at what time, and with what speed. Actually the software piracy trust succeeded in forcing the danish isp to give them the address of the suscribers and also the logs of all their traffic! Watch out, big brother is here.

http://dcplusplus.sourceforge.net for DC ++

I forgot to say that the nimo codec pack solved my problems. :)

I am using WiMP 9.0 RC2 - Not bad if I do say so. Much better than their beta.
