I am playing the smaller version of the world map that came with the game, fully patched (1.21) version of Civ. I control Asia and Africa, with some settlements in other places as well. Year is 1070 AD and era is Middle Age. Suddenly the Iroquis and Americans sign a Mutual Protection Pact. The interesting thing is that both of them are very far from the Nationalism advance. Yet they are able to sign MPP pacts?!? I can´t and I´m way ahead of both these civs in every area.
It isn´t a big deal as I could easily crush both of these civs if I wanted to, but it appears to be a bug.

Did they sign MPP with each other?

Malta please post the savegame, I'd love to see that...sounds like rampant AI CHEATING, in caps. :p

He means a savegame before they signed it

Malta, did it say Protection pact or Alliance? Alliance with someone against someone else comes with Writing and embassies!

Yes, it was a MPP, not an alliance. If it had been an alliance, it would have been an alliance *against* someone else, and I am certain it was a MPP that they signed. B.t.w. it was at the second (from left) difficulty level, which I of course don´t recall the name of now that I need it. :-)
