One improvement that was sorely needed is that your generals now can die of old age. In MTW, men of royal blood that aren't kings or heirs can live forever, racking up great virtues and causing the armies they command to become nearly invincible. While this made things easier, it wasn't very realistic.

It is a pity you can not train swiss armoured pikemen and swiss pikemen. Ordinary pikemen are not good when defending against non-cavalry units. Great new units like Arab Infantry and Byzantine Lancers but still no decent defensive unit for the Byzantines.
