Mulitplayer LAN Game Crashes

In the last month, my son and I can't play more than 5 turns on a Multiplayer LAN game. He has CIV 6 on Steam. I have it on Epic Games. We can create, load and start playing. Just every 5 turns or so, it crashes. This is new in the last month or so. We never had this problem before. Any help is greatly welcomed.

Do you know what kind of crash it is? Specifically, does it say "unhandled exception"? The new 2K launcher has ben causing stability issues for quite a few people, so this might be the culprit.

My son never remembers the error message. However, we were using Direct X11. We tried Direct X12 and one game in, no crash. We will see if that was the issue.

That would be odd, since in my experience DX12 mode is usually more unstable, but if it works then it works.
