Hi guys
This is so much fun to read. Much more interesting than reading SP game stories imo. So looking forward to reading on, hope you both can find the time.
Even makes me wanna try out MP after exams in june. How you would recommend to getting into MP? Im very exp in SP but never MP.

Well getting in mp is easy but finding good quality mp is a challange. Way too many players quit, dont try to win, are cheesy or something other. Personally to me every player who quits destroyes quality of game greatly. Some game also end simply because people lose intrest on it. Also your first mp game will end horribly because master human is something complitely different than your drooling steroid-ai.
And out community is only for Finns so if you know how to write it then you are welcome.

Well, Calad wrote most of the things you want to avoid but to get things working is another thing. These are the things required from players:
1. You have a good PC and good Internet connection
2. You follow the rules and respect other players
After that you have basically a bunch of people who can play the game. Rest is mostly depending on how to get people together at the same time in most of the weeks. I say most of the weeks because most of the time you will have at least one player who can't make it this week.
So before every game, I ask people when they think they will have time in their schedule for next 1,5 - 2 months. That is the time each game will most likely take, if you play once per week. When I have listed everybody who are interested in participating, I'll go the times through and choose the one that suits for most of the people. I'll also make sure that everybody knows this, at least couple of days before the game begins.
Then it is all about the players to make it for the starting session, because if you are not in the first session, you can't get a civilization.
Spoiler:
Once we actually tried to put a AI civ in the game for a player. But then he told us that he can't make it. Also, the player who we luckily get to replace this first player, could not connect to the server since game did not allow to replace AI with human. So for rest of that game, we had AI Hiawatha building all the wonders he possibly could build. AI did not stop building wonders even when (human) America came to conquer all his lands, and got some +200 points and several wonders for that.
Oh, and the most important thing: You need someone to organize all this, or it wont happen.
Funny thing is that I cant really recommend anybody to try civ5 mp because the net code simply is horrible. Lag is constantly and computer calculates everything way too long. Even with the best computers and internet connections you will still have rather annoying session.
But here is my waited part...
History of Kingdom of Gondor in third age: Shadow rising
The third age in Middle-earth had been peaceful since the founding of The City: Minas Anor. However evil that had caused destruction of Numenor had simply escaped and re-armed itself far in the east, in the unmapped dark continent. Proud men of the west were again to face same old evilness on new era.
But before the epic struggle begins, there was a peace...
All spoilers below are free to everybody if not specially mentioned.
Spoiler:
This is situation of Gondor beyond turn 200. Definetly the positive is that I am not on the bottom. I should be but I am not. It is very hard to competite with other players when you have only one city, so Zulus player should really be ashamed.
So why I am so high on scores then? Well there more detailed information of it. Top 3 players:
Spoiler:
Little later from the sessions start Gondor and her freedom-loving citizens were first to adopt an ideology first in the Arda.
Spoiler:
However the true enemy of the west: Sauron Tzaari know no rest. Years earlier his minions had scouted the very borders of Minas Anor and now he wanted to test the defence.
SpoilerSome unofficial backround information :
On last game I managed to trash Tzaari, now Spain, very badly and looks like he is on revenge. However still his strategy is very logical because my city has maybe 20% of all wonders. So civ who controls Minas Anor will definetly win the game. I provocated him slightly by surrounding his explorer and he decied to dow me. Quite radical action but his main goal was to loot my sea trade routes which he did very well. I learned from this and replaced most of looted searoutes by caravans... and I am still making tons of cash.
Spoiler:
The evil that knows no rest.
Because of international pressure Spain was forced to make peace quickly. Marocco was specially furious because by looting my trade he also lost lot of income. Meanwhile the men of the west had not been sleeping. Gondors counter-strike followed soon and in congress world denounced evil actions of Spain and embargoed her.
But power of Sauron Tzaari could not be denied.
As a second nation in Arda Spain adopted order. Soon green fields were turned into black factories. Water become acid and air was poisonous to breath. Sun retreated behind of dark clouds.
Spoiler:
However diplomatic sanctions seems to have only little effect on Spains economy since they continued founding new cities closer of Gondors border.
Who can resist such a power? The proud city of Minas Anor was waiting shadow to fall on it. In the east Spains neighbor were equal terrified of his power.
Spoiler:
To counter this alien thread Marocco, who had become fascist, and Gondor made first a defensive treaty and later decied together to counter thread of Mordor Spain.
Spoiler:
Deal was: after city of Salamanca is fallen Gondor will join the war. Meanwhile Spain had done its best to agitate citizens of Gondor against it. Continious military presence near on borders was provocative reason enough for war. Spanish fleet was also counter manuvering next to Gondors fleet but they could not see what was coming, because if was under water.
Spoiler:
Spanish troops next to border were first to die. Thought they founded city there, they have no chance to survive. Finaly Minas Anor had his revenge.
Spoiler:
On the sea fleets were deployed. What Spanish saw was a small fleet and attacked without hesitation.
Spoiler:
In total there were two battles and whole Spanish fleet was utterly annihilated. Twin u-boats Faramir and Boromir with wolfpack II promotions sunk every turn one Spanish ship. After first encounter Spanish did actually return only to suffer similar catastrophy.
Spoiler:
Spoiler:
The power of Spain.
Spoiler:
DONT LOOK THIS IF YOU ARE PLAYING THIS GAME. Others are more than welcome.
Spoiler:
Great city of Minas Anor.
Thats it this time. What will this war achieve is still a mystery. But Spain is evil and must be punished. Fascist gigantic Marocco of course is no a threat nor evil.
War against evil Spain was going very well. Because of my submarines Spanish were very afraid to send more troop to defend their colonies and actually built up defences in their home continent. A logical move I must say, submarines were absolutely devastating and Spain was isolated. Peace was made soon after last city fell and neither side had arms to attack on others continent.
SpoilerEven my allies sailed against evilness of Spain! :
SpoilerSpain was also very nervous of possible invasion from Japan. :
SpoilerSubmarines annihilating everything they could find :
However it was about to become only an armistice. Marocco had not mentioned anything what Gondor desired so Spain refused initially to make a reasonable peace. Only after Marocco declared him to be ready rejoin on this war Spain decided to pay 20 golds for 30 turns. Really civ5 peace system is so poor that I cant really demand anything more useless.
War also failed to achieve any longer goals: soon after peace Spain attacked against Jerusalem, our ally out of revenge. They were also ready to attack city states on our continent but again united front of Marocco and Gondor held aggressor out.
SpoilerAnother victim of Spanish imperialism :
SpoilerAfter war Spain remained on top but much more furious! :
War had barely scrathed Minas Anor so soon after it economy bloomed again. Tourism and culture output doubled, science and gold production increased significanly. Gondor made so much cash I bought rest of city states on the world and started to buy votes from weaker civs. Soon Zulu, Maya and Assyria voted like we desired for small amount of gold, which was a huge treasure for them.
SpoilerGondor giving development assistance to third world countries :
SpoilerMy minions are fighting against each other, how cute :
Assyria had some troubles to enter into new brawe world. They were like Republic of Weimar: unstable battled by ideologies. They ended on loop where order, authority and freedom were equal strong and swiching ideology did not reduce dissent. Again Gondor helped poorer countries by suggesting of burning some minor cities and giving some free resources and money.
SpoilerIMF assistance :
SpoilerPolitics of the world :
DONT OPEN THIS IF YOU PARTICIPATE ON GAME!
SpoilerGondor on the end of session :
Atlest we are not on the bottom. Reason why Maya went pass us is because they captured Zulus capital.
Mighty city Minas Anor, I am running out of workable tiles See all those yummy specialist improvements. 20 turn golden ages are nice too.
I also keep my military constanly updated and expand it. I will continue expanding my military because there are no buildings anymore I can build or buy! Maybe I will also go war against somebody?
Muah muah my plan of dividing nations, manipulating and creating chaos is working. Marocco, Spain and Maya are now my true competitors. Japan is also dangerous player but rest of three are in my pocket. Since I have a huge turism output I can further destabilate other nations. I also have almost all city states allied expect few that are close to Spain and he keeps relations high (+200).
Today we played only for 29 turns and ended in turn 329. Our host was late for some 25 minutes and there was much time spend rehosting and connection problems. Most of the turns we managed to play were spend in war so it was quite interesting session that made ground for more to come.
Moroccan army advancing. Spain is doing everything it can to slow down the enemy but with no artillery support there is a little change to turn the tide of war.
The war with Morocco and Venice continued and it was going badly for Spanish Western Colonies. Spanish fleet was mostly destroyed and Empire had no desire to send in more ships for those Venetian submarines. Before the continuation, Venetians offered some preliminary peace talks. They claimed to be not interested in harassing Spanish troop transports and offered ceasefire to let Spanish artillery over the strait. In return, Spain was to cease attacking both Venetian and Moroccan trade routes.
This was a very tempting offer for Spain. Indeed, too tempting. Spain therefore offered to stop raiding both trade routes for this war, and to end the long history of attacking Venetian trade routes for lasting Peace. Moroccan trade routes could be in peace for rest of the continuing war, but not after that, if there would be a new war. This made Venetians only to stay in silence so to resolve the issue Empire made it clear that peace between Venice and Spain should be agreed now or not at all.
There was a Spanish Caravel sailing near Venetian Trade Ship and remaining troops of Minas Anor Observation Force had came in shore near Vatican City. No agreement was made that day.
Raiding the Venetian trade and Vatican countryside. There is gold to be made even when war seems to be lost.
The war continued untill most of the troops Spain had managed to send for defense of Nuevo Madrid were either annihilated or retreating. Moroccans had also some losses, but these did not have much effect for the outcome of the war. The Colonies were now clearly lost so Spain started peace talks with Moroccans. Morocco wanted Nuevo Madrid and since it would be lost anyway, this was agreed as peace term. They also wanted Spain to make peace with Venice. This was also agreed. What Moroccans (nor Venetians) failed to tell, was that Venice also wanted war reparations. This error was followed by unnecessary drama before Venice made a demand of 20 gold per turn for peace. Spain had no desire to continue the war, so peace was made.
Mombasa was lucky to be producing food. Jerusalem was integrated for the Imperial god
During the war the formerly friendly City states in Spanish Eastern Coast had turned against Spain. Spain managed to get Genoa turn its side before the end of the war. Jerusalem and Mombasa took more work. While Spain would rather had both of them back as allies, it was clear that Spain could not compete with tons of Venetian gold that was flowing for the City States. Especially not since Spanish Foreign trade was banned by Venetian influence in World Congress and other civilizations were even less able to compete with Venetians for influence. So this problem was solved with arms, by taking the Jerusalem for Spanish Empire. At the end Mombasa was treated differently, since it could provide Spain some Empire wide benefits, and later became ally after some successful trade missions. Peace was also made with 8 other city states, that were under Venetian influence.
Some years after the war Spain made attempt to improve these relations. Declaration of friendship was made. Soon it was followed by Venetian gold flowing back against Spanish influence in City States accompanied with insults and claims that Spain is the most aggressive and evil empire in the world. It seems that Venetian foreign policy is dependant on keeping up the illusion of Spanish threat. This way they are trying to keep up good relations with Morocco.
Workers of the Spanish Empire are now promoted to think freely. Science is booming in numbers, but Spanish Empire is large and inefficient when it comes to research.
When years went by, Empress noticed that there was only one Conquistador remaining. Age of Conquistadors came its end. So for a last time, the Last Conquistador was send to East to continue the world of Spanish Explorers until there would be no more lands to find. Ironically the last of the Conquistadors would start his journey from the same point where the first of the Spanish Scouts was killed by barbarians so long ago.
Time of Exploration is not over
Journeys of the Last Conquistador took him all the way to Zululand. Even there, in the far reach of the continent, things are changing. What was thought to be the most western reach of Zululand was actually Mayan conquered city of Intulointaba. News of the capital of Zululand had already reached Madrid some years ago. Defeat of Zulus should have been clear already, if not for Japanese intervention. For first time in history Spain is now observing war that is waged by others. Offers were made by both side to join against the other, but no decision was made by Spanish Crown to support either.
SpoilerNot for players to see :
Demographics in turn 329
Who could have imagined, Spanish Empire seems to be in decline! *Short moment of silent disbelief*
Venice is still topping in population, even when Spain has 14 cities and average population is a bit over 14 totaling in 198. Spanish GNP is also still second largest, but Venice has now much bigger GNP.
After lose of Western Colonies to Morocco, Morocco is now leading in Land and also in number of soldiers. Not much but definitely leading and therefore, more than equivalent for Spain.
Spanish Approval ratting and Literacy, while both still competent, are second to last. Amount of Cities in Spanish Empire means that there is a quite serious 28% extra in cost of technology.
Only numbers where Spanish lead still holds, is in amount of produced food and Manufactured Goods. Well at last people work hard and eat well.
Spanish Empire 1909 AD
Since the session today was a bit short, I decided to write additional post later this week considering the other civilizations still in game. There will be no screenshots but a bit deeper review about the development of the game and Spanish politics and world.
SpoilerThings that were bugging Spain (and mostly its friends) :
-Lobby bugs. Wrong civs + need for double clicks.
-Trade bug.
-3 Rehosts. First our host dropped out of game. Then we had 2 rehosts where two different players could not connect. After this we chanced to my hosting and got the game running until the end on session.
-The Anarchy in Assyria. I don't think this is intended effect. Player had very frustrating time with Ideologies. He had several revolutions following each other that changed Assyrias ideology but in the end ended always with a ideology that caused more unhappiness. This was not resolved until Assyria traded two cities for Venice to burn down and finally got positive happiness that ended revolutions.
As the game continues, there is still seven civilizations left. On Eastern continent One is in brink of destruction, while one on the opposite shore is leading. Two have declined on both continents while two are small but influential. One is waiting its time while another one is destroying its neighbor.
There is 171 turns left to compete the Victory of this game.
The Top Secret files of Spanish Empire, about things going on between other Civilizations.
SpoilerNot for players to read until end of the game :
Eastern Continent
Mayans
Mayans are the number two civilization on Eastern continent and risen back to number three in points after short period of AI government. In some ways their situation is better than that of Spain. For first, they are not leading the game and therefore others are not trying to destroy them in World Congress.
Strategically Mayans are well placed. They have two much weaker civilizations as their neighbors. Zulus are mostly destroyed by now. Arabia has now had a long period of AI-Regency and they are in bad shape. Mayans also have free space around them to build up new cities if they decide to do so. There is a narrow sea and more narrow isthmus connecting Mayas to Spain.
I am quite sure that Mayans were planning to attack Spain during the war with Morocco and Venice, or soon after it. It may even be that Venetian offer to let Spanish troops over the sea was actually a part of this plan. After landing to Nuevo Madrid, Venetians could have easily closed the strait and most of the Spanish mainland had been defenseless against Mayan attack for a long time.
Spain decided not to attack Mayas after they started the so far very succesfull war against Zululand. This was requested by Zulus and Japanese as well. Spain also made this known for the player of Mayans, so it remains to be seen what happens in future. Whatever happens, Spain has now decided not to go war with Mayans for twice.
The distance between Spain and Mayan lands is however much less than the distance between Spain and Morocco, or even Venice. If you ask me, this makes them the greatest threat for Spain. It is for them to choose either to attack Spain in some point in the future, or to seek their own way to come up in points by conquering the less fortunate neighbors of Eastern Coast. By attack they would try to bring down Spain instead of rising by themselves. But there is always a change to lose a war.
Arabia
Arabia is a backwater by definition. If they are not last in every possible demographic, that is only because the ongoing destruction of Zulus. Player has been away for too many times and he is also new for the game. Arabia expanded too fast and too early with not enough luxuries. They could be a potential ally for endgame, if Mayans decide to go against Spain, but this would mainly be supporting Spain with resources and research.
That is off course, if the player is still around and playing with Arabia. I do hope he is. Arabia can still make points by colonizing and even by conquest since there is City States all around Arabia. Spain does not care about those. Mayans might, but then again they would risk war on two fronts if Spain supports Arabia. There is much that could have been done and, could still be done in Eastern part of Eastern continent.
Zulus
Zulus are probably the next civilization to be destroyed, but you cant be 100% sure of that. Japan is supporting them.
They were reluctant to expand with the needed extend and sadly not very successful in other ways to gain points. Only thing that I think Zulus have been successful is spying others and stealing technology. But then again there has never been a defending spy in Madrid.
There is large area around them with no cities. Basically a free are for anyone to claim, but they didn't do this. I remember hearing something about barbarians. With a big map they can be serious problem, if fail to build up backbone of your army early on.
Nevertheless, there is always someones army in any land. The Mayan war machine is wiping them from the map in fast pace. Help from Japan is probably not enough. There has been some peace talks between Zulus and Mayans, but I doubt there will be peace. If there is however, they might just rise again, since there is much space for cities and you can still do a lot in 179 turns remaining.
Western Continent
Venice
My initial plan when I discovered that Venice is the nearest of the civilizations in Western Continent but still too far for alliance or effective trading, was to loot and burn the Venetian trade routes, improvements and to free either Vatican or Colombo or both. This was, however made practically impossible by Morocco who is protecting them since the trade income they get with Venetian trade.
Venice is somewhat dominant in the World Congress since it has a lot of money and it can invest most of it to influence City States. It also gets much influence with its population. This could be countered, if other players just tried to take 2-3 City State allies for themselves like Spain did, but so far they have been reluctant to do this or simply having other problems.
Venice is not so much a military threat (at least not yet) that it is a threat for Spanish Economy and Technological Research. And by doing this it is indirectly effecting Spanish military, by making it hard to keep up in technology and to support large number of units AND to upgrade those units.
Venetians are more than a bit paranoid about Moroccans. And for a good reason. When Morocco withdrew its army from former Spanish Western Colonies, Venice spotted this and went immediately in full defense mode, demanding for explanation. For Morocco, Venetian Capital may be too tempting target to resist. Time is definately not on the side of Venice.
But does Venice has change for Victory? In a way it does. If Morocco does not attack Venice but Venice manages to get others attack Morocco, and takes most of Moroccan cities, it might get enough points to win the game. Main goal for Venetians is to stay alive but it might have to go offensive against its greatest ally to do even this.
Morocco
Morocco is second in points and it is catching up Spanish lead slowly but surely. Morocco is already a bit ahead of Spain in technological development. In the war Morocco had technological and strategical advances in its side. It surely has the income to keep up its armies and to upgrade them in time. Moroccan economy has a lot to thank for Venice, but if you ask me, it has probably better potential to stand alone than Spain has. Morocco is in the perfect position to win the game.
It has three neighbors, but it also has alliance with two of them to defense against the third. It is stronger than either of those, but it is not the leader of the game so others are not automatically slowing it down.
The long lived alliance between Morocco and Venice has been profitable, but I dont think that it will last forever. At the moment, Venetian Capital is full of Wonders. There will be more in time. Wonders bring a lot of points and since this game is all about points, there is little reason for Morocco to let Venice live forever, if that is what it takes to Win the game.
Spain has, at least from Spanish point of view, neutral relations with Morocco even after the last war. Morocco surely has only one reason to attack Spain, that Spain is leading in points, but Morocco has the possibility change this by its own development and in the end, by conquest of any of its neighbors. Right now there is one very good candidate for this. Weak and declining Assyria that has only managed to make continent full of enemies.
Assyria
Assyria has become the Western Continent equivalent for Arabia and/or Zululand. Player was away for one session and while the civilization might not have been seriously injured by this, Assyria clearly played its cards in wrong order when it comes to diplomacy.
Assyria has more points than Japan but it also has a lot more problems. It is behind all of its neighbors technologically. Assyria had plans of conquest but these were made empty partly because the AI period. Later Spain tried to get Japan and Assyria to make alliance, but Assyria did those early mistakes with Japan and managed to play all its neighbors against itself without weapons to or power to oppose them.
Assyria may still rise however, if others turn against Morocco, or Morocco turns against Venice and Moroccan neighbors see their change to take down this Victory waiting behemoth amongst them. It is however mostly in what happens for Assyrian neighbors and how far ahead they get in technology before there is change for Assyria to strike. Assyrian siege towers have surely had a long waiting time to get technology from conquered enemies.
Japan
Last but not least, there is Japan. Empire of the rising sun is small but technologically cutting edge. They have been mostly in the background until the attack against Mayans to support Zulus. Even then Japan does not have power to really go against Mayans, but it can make things much harder for Mayans. Well, for anybody actually.
Diplomatically Japan claims to be 'supporting peace', all tough it was cheered by Spanish when conquering Brussels. Spain did try to get alliance with Japan, mainly because threat of Morocco. This did not happen since Assyrian threat to Japan. Japan went for alliance with Morocco instead and has so far stayed in it.
So they did not come to help Spain in war with Morocco and Venice, but then again I really didn't think they would. Japanese-Assyrian alliance would be something that could make things harder for Morocco, but it is more likely for Japan to go against Assyria since they are easier target and there is both Assyrian cities to be conquered and former City States to be set free.
Summary
In my opinion, the civilizations that still have a realistic change to win the game are Spain, Morocco and Mayans. Venice does have a change, but it is mostly depending what others do. If Morocco fails to see threat from Venice and Venice decides to try turning others against Morocco, it may have a chance.
Of the three leaders, Morocco probably has best chance for win. Morocco has best diplomatic relations with neighboring civilizations. While Spain has been leading for a long time the economic condition is making things hard. I can't think of a way to lift those Venetian made trade restrictions only by Spanish power. There is surely not going to be support from Mayans or Morocco to do this.
Mayans have the best potential to expand in late game. They may be planning to do this with others support. While I can't think a reason for Morocco to actually help Mayas, since it can go for win by itself and probably don't want to even up the competition, Venice might just do this. However, Venice has its own problems with Morocco. It is probably not going to go any war alone, without Moroccan support and therefore risk Moroccan backstabbing them while fighting elsewhere.
Japan, Assyria and Arabia are now mostly competing with each other. They may be able to compete with Venice in points and they may be able to change the situation in top by alliances. Of the three Japan has the best position technologically and possibility to bring down Assyria if it wants to do that. Arabia has strategically the most 'stable' environment, but it may become the next sacrifice to Mayans.
Still a very well written and interesting thread here. Thx guys for sharing, especially tzaari for the indeepth analyzis.
Would love to see morocco player give his point of view on things. Can he be persuaded to do so?

And about where to find civ5 mp game. Sign into paradox forum and there go to ot forum -> civ5 thread. They are recruiting there so it is a good place to start.
And about this forum. Really people, why are you so silent? Over 1200 view and still most of messages are made by me and tzaari. I initially thought civfanatic would be a cool forum because it is the main civilization forum but how wrong I was. It makes me feel I am simply wasting my time when reporting here.

About the silent readers.
I understand your frustration, really I do. Its a big effort to put together a story write-up and it must feel a bit unapriciated when very few post in the thread. On the other hand, I myself sometimes is a part of the silent readers group, since most of the time when I pop into the forum for reading, its inbetween other things and I havent really got the time to write something meaningfull. Still I love to be able to read stories and other content from time to time. Just to give you a point of view from an occational silent reader the silence is not ment to be unapriciative - from me anyway.
I will not write any in character AAR but, this game is at a most interesting situation right now.
The war against Spain was mostly started for the 2 coal hexes which they "stole" from our continent, for some reason my starting position had 0 coal, so I of course had to expand my empire eastwards much more than I would have liked to. For now though, the two coal are enough as I picked the autocratic ideology which gives us the tenet "third way". This made our strategic resources jump, so we will most likely never have to worry about these again.
Otherwise the game has been very easy. Investing on technology and feeding our capital with caravans paid off very well as we have Venice as our neighbour, we didn't have to worry about money really, 2-3 cargo ships to their cities bring enough money.
First I was a bit worried as Calad happened to be my neighbour, but surprisingly, trusting him paid off well. Giving them Colombo was the best decision I made.
Another thing which made it easy was our Kasbah special improvement which made the numerous desert hexes around us useful in giving us more production and food.
Assyria failed early on, so we didn't have to worry about them, this meant we could focus completely on sciences and economy.
Very good relations with Japan were nurtured also from an early start with us spreading our delicious religion(pagodas, monasteries) there.
Even though, later Assyrian Buddhism replaced ours in there.
Morocco even proposed a "Road of peace" with them to show our mutual trust in each other.
It was built a few hundred years later.
We have no interest on their war against the Mayas really as things of the other continent do not concern us as long as any over-seas invasions do not occur.
Spoilernot for players :
Rather it benefits us. If "lesser" nations continue to destabilize each other in any way possible we will have more time to utilize our own plans.
The Mayas suprisingly want to trade with us. I was sure they were in the pocket of the Spanish.
I don't have much to say about other nations. I will continue my ambivalent position against those of the "second" continent. Realpolitik if you will.
SpoilerMy plans, not for players :
My plan, as most of you can probably predict, is the destruction of Venice.
If I have good luck, I will have several uranium resources on my vast lands. This is very important. The moment we get the Manhattan project ready and the first Uranium mines running, we will start producing nukes ASAP.
The defences surrounding the Venetian capital will be very heavily defended so we will need to obliterate the surroundings first and then the actual city. Tanks will roll in with bombers assisting in the destruction of any resistance while we secure it.
The other cities do not interest me as much but they could possibly give me more score so I will take them.
My plans are heavily dependent on continued succesful diplomacy with Venice and others and complete surprise. I will most likely claim to defend against any aggressors or invaders when they see I have finished the project And, as I have had legitimate Casus Bellis, if you will. my reasons can be probably accepted. I also have to prepare against any aggression from my old friend Japan if anyone can get them in their pocket, so the end game will be very exciting.
I might write a longer post after the game is over. I hope you can get something out from my ramblings.

The story part of this forum is lacking. Most of what people post here lately is Let's Plays. Kind of disappointing for me. Don't get me wrong, I like to watch Let's Plays every now and then, but I also like to read the creative writing of civers like you guys, and I'm really enjoying this thread.
A1: Probably somewhere between 400-450. We have played most of the previous games with all Victory conditions, so the game has ended before turn 500. Technologically most advanced civilizations have usually had most of the tech tree finished.
A2: Yes. We have this rule for wars. There is also a rule that forbids players to give cities away during war and quit the game by giving away cities, during war or after it.
A3: Well, I can't say there is none! Granted, it was quite nice to bring down Forodus Rome, since he has backstabed my civs many times in past. Calad might think I was harassing Venice, because he gave me hard time surviving in previous game with Byzantium, but truthfully I tend to make my decisions in game based on the game we are playing at the moment.
A4: No. Forodus has been there many times and also won the game. Also couple of other players who are not participating this game has been competing or winning past games.
In other news, there is post from this weeks session coming shortly!
Part 6, Vaults of the Venice are reserved for gold
Turns 329-369
For Spanish Empire the beginning of 20th Century was time of peace. Empire struggled to build up her armada after the defeats of past and to keep up with rest of the world in technological progress. In the meantime, old nemesis of Venice continued to corrupt City States of Western Spanish Coast and to bother not only Spain, but also all the ideological partners who are following Ideology of Order. Since there was no plans of conquest and war, there was diplomacy and co-operation, many times in conditions that made it hard for Spain to keep the ideological brothers together.
It was the intervention of Japan in war between Mayas and Zulus that made things hard. Spain advice Zulus to make peace with Mayas in terms that Mayas would keep all the cities they had conquered. It was promoted by Spain that there was no reason to continue the war that was a lost cause for Zulus, and that could only make Mayas weaker and Japan vulnerable to attack from Morocco. Resulting peace was however welcomed. After Zulus somehow displeased Venice, by ways untold for Spain, Spain made its best to replace Venetian aid for Zulus resulting in socialistic revolution in Zululand.
Stick em with the pointy end Shaka!
After returning to power, the Arabian leaders found their nation in deep trouble. Both, the Arabian economy and approval ratings were badly damaged. Things went so bad that people of Baghdad went all the way to revolution that led them to ally with Spain. However the Spanish Crown was not pleased by acquiring this far away city and found it to have little value and no strategic importance for the Empire. Therefore Baghdad was returned to Arabia, in addition with a trade agreement that gave Arabians some free furs to make their people happier. Later Arabia rejected the corrupted ideas of freedom. Socialist realism would make people of Arabia happy.
My private plane doesn't have long enough range. Actually it's not even invented yet, so no thanks!
Next on list were the unfortunate people of Assyria. Needless to say, there was nothing good that had came for Assyrians from Venice. If anything, the Venetian-Moroccan alliance had made it impossible for Assyria to wage war of Conquest. Venetian proposal of standing army tax, as alternative to Order as a world ideology, was something that Assyrians could not handle. As a people who had one revolution after another, Assyrians were delighted to change their ideology to Order. At least this time it would have some meaning to it.
Later there was also vote for Host. Spain supported Japan and campaigned heavily for other votes for Japan. This was necessary since the immense amount of City State-votes Venice had (26-28). Not all were happy to support Japan but it was made clear that Venetian influence in World Congress was good for nobody (except Venice itself).
So when it eventually came time to vote in World Congress, there was two resolutions. The first, proposed by Japan, was Order as a world ideology. This proposal was successful with slight majority supporting order. The second proposal, by Venice, was a disaster for everyone. Venetian proposal of Standing Army Tax was passed and therefore probably all but Venice alone was to suffer economical. Spanish Empire, despite her lack of Nuclear Weapons, suffered a hit of almost 100 gold per turn.
War on Western Continent
War. War never changes
But the Demographics are changed by war
Like the population, see?
Finally, in 1945 AD, the war that Spain had so much waited for broke out on Western Continent. Unholy alliance between Morocco and Venice was done when Moroccan nuclear weapons found their target in Minas Anor. Also Japan joined the war siding with Morocco and making its own nuclear attack tree turns later. Minas Anor was devastated and Venice dropped from its long-lasting lead in population and GNP.
Spain could only follow the news coming from Western Continent. While the armed forces of Spain are strong in conventional force, Spain still lacks nuclear weapons. Morocco, Japan and Venice are so far the only Nuclear Powers of the World. Moroccan-Japanese Conquest of Venice is underway and if successful (there is little hope for Venice to overcome its former allies) Morocco is the power that will rise to lead.
War was also joined by Mayas who are aiming to free Venetian oppressed Antwerp. There was another tricky diplomatic situation for Spain to solve with Zulus, who were not eager to let Mayan army march trough their lands.
Demographics in turn 369
Spain took the lead in everything, except Land and Literacy! However short lived lead lead this may be, there is some credit taken in keeping up the progress while not having any foreign trade routes. But when Moroccans take Venice, they will probably go to lead in points and also in many other meters.
While Spain is still behind in Technology, it is nice to notice that the lead of Japan (and others) has not grown much. It was 4% and now it is 6%, maybe 5% in next turn. There has also been a lot of building in cities to keep up the research points.
SpoilerNot for other players to read :
Spanish Empire in all its glory. There is no cities under population 10 now
Building of the New Spanish Armada is undergoing well. There is now 16 new Destroyers in service. I have not yet decided how much I will focus on navy, but there will be at least couple of Battleships, couple of Submarines and 3-4 nuclear subs. Perhaps a Carrier or two. But this is off course after the trade ban is lifted and I get the foreign trade with Mayas and flowing.
Spain does not have too much aluminum so the air force will probably focus on Fighters that will be upgraded for Jets. At the moment there is not much of a air force and it is also behind other technologically. Morocco and Japan will have Jet Fighters when Spain is just starting to build regular fighters, or upgrading its triplanes. Again, I need to get the gold for that somewhere..
Mayas are telling me that they want revenge with Japan. Apparently the Japanese intervention in Zuluwar was not very pleasing surprise. Or, they might be just bluffing and preparing to attack Spain? I really cant tell but at the moment Spain is siding with Mayas and planning to strike Morocco-Japanese alliance in future.
Assyria is probably going to side with Spain and Mayas. I have told both Arabia and Zulus that Spain is only thing keeping Mayas from attacking them and they are buying this. Mayas don't actually have interest to attack either of them, but they don't need to know this, do they?
So when the Moroccan-Japanese-Venetian war ends Morocco should take the lead but keeping it until the end of the game will be hard.
The great adventures of the Last Conquistador took him all the way to the end of the Eastern continent. Most of the Continent is now known by Spanish. Arabia has some resemblance to Rome, with not so many roads leading to capital..
SpoilerThings that were bugging Spain (and mostly others) :
-Connection issues in lobby. We used 30 to start the game. First player of Zulus could not connect on server. Then couple of players just dropped out for no apparent reason. Finally player of Mayas was unable to connect, but after that we got the game running. We had to restart the game three times, since players had to close their game before another attempt to join the game.
-Kicking a player from lobby clears the chat-box for host. Others can still see the messages send before kicking a player. Its not like we are chatting anything important there.. but why?
-When we are still in lobby, lets mention the "players seeing wrong civs in start"-thing.
-Guess what, the trade bug is still there!
-Laaaaggg. Lots of units moving around, tons of lag for everybody..
