Why are there no games in Gamespy lobby?

I'll be hosting games at night, est. Join and I will restart.

1) Hub, small, high seas, temperate, quickspeed, blazing timer

2) Unrestricted leaders. No Barbarians: I know, but if I wanted to fight the AI, I'd play single player (no spider strats/babies taking cities in MP :P).

3) No tribal villages (no slot machines ftw in MP), No Lairs (-AI), Random Personalities (why not)

Multiplayer, Internet games, log in

See you there. (EDIT: Or not, does it work?)

Does anyone else play on gamespy server? When?

EDIT: Damn, Gamespy staging room crashes 20 seconds after opening staging room. It doesn't work?

"An error has occured in the staging room with the server."

Its always easier to just find someone wanting to play and do an IP connect. Gamespy has a lot of syncing issues that makes it really difficult to play over so I haven't done Gamespy for FfH or regular Civ for ages.

Gamespy is experiencing especially bad troubles at the moment. A friend's BTS staging room just crashed the same.

Normally, Gamespy works fine. If there is an Out of Sync Error, the person can relog and the game continues, no big deal.

EDIT: Actually, I never hosted a FfH before (thought I had tested it). Has it ever worked?

EDIT2: It works now, let's play.

Settings (1) negotiable.

EDIT3: It seems for both gamespy and direct IP, you have to be willing to live with OOS message all game. I'll look into hamachi when I can stand it no longer.

A lot of us tend to use Hamachi for it, easy to find people who want to play and helps with router problems i think, the link to the multiplayer thread is in my signature, the thread is a good place to find people who want to play, and for information about hamachi and other multiplayer related things heh

Well, I installed the "l" patch (don't try doing it with the game open, duh :).

Gamespy works fine. The patch fixed the OOS problems, as well as the sudden appearence of hell everywhere. OOS and sudden_hell were often predictable by the appearence of lairs despite the option no_lairs being selected.

A couple of problems remain (this is MP in general, not gamespy specific - excuse the OT)...

1) Remnant, Fruit, Mirror, et al. are a real pain in MP. We had to all check to see if we had cheater resources and, if so, rehost. A remnant, dragon skeleton, or sun mirror which is not in the capital can be played 2v1; however, fruit cannot be overcome (even 2v1 most attempts). Can we please toggle these things off. We played with lairs and barbs off, am I missing an option?

2) Settings do not stay. I know this seems nitpicky, but it is so annoying to have to re-select all settings, options, and timer every rehost (especially when rehosts are three in a row due to cheater resources).

you're playing a map thats sole purpose was to help kael fix bugs for the BTS conversion. The latest stable version is really .23. If you want a less buggy version go back to that, or wait for .30 to come out. Kael has already said he isnt going to patch .25 anymore.

I don't see a need for any patches, but I'm a noob. The failure of the settings to stick is a problem with Final Frontier too, so I do not consider it a bug, but an oversight.

Regarding the cheater resources, does .23 have these too? Seriously, how can you have them in Multiplayer games? They totally destroy any semblence of fairness and we always rehost when someone has a cheater resource... Can you turn them off? Again, not a bug... an oversight.

I'm not expecting any additional patches and I think FfH > BTS. Of course, I'll be thrilled when the next update comes out!

Thanks for the info, but I don't understand what "map" you are talking about. I play FfH 2 025l (MP, via gamespy and hamachi). I believe this is the latest update and not some "practice" map, but I could be wrong... With the "l" patch, it seems entirely stable even in gamespy. I have played many hours online, and have not had a single problem since the "l" patch.

What i mean to say is .25 is an experimental version of the game, who's purpose was really just to port the game to BTS. .23 doesn't have these resources (in fact i didn't even know they existed because i havent bothered to touch the game while it was getting out of sync errors). So if they are such a huge issue, im pretty sure that they will either be rebalanced, or toggleable as you suggest. Just don't expect that until the first version of shadow is released in december.

I played whole games OOS! Well, to turn 200 on quickspeed or crash, whichever came first. When I first discovered this game, nothing could stop me from playing it. If I had to transfer to paper and pencil, and bust out the d20 to continue playing, I would have :)

Thanks for the info. Hope to see you soon at the gamespy or hamachi server.
