Now that the patch has come in.
Well in a reasonable enough time anyway.
Horseman nerfs and forced promotion selection kills any early game war.
I predict that:
a) Inevitably it will require a longer time to build up an adequate force to take out opponents but by that time you lose your rush advantage as they will have enough of a defence to stub it.
It's generably easier to defend anyway, so players previously susceptible to rushes now can truly rely on a few defenders.
b) Instead of rushes, it will be a series of short skirmishes until the discovery of later techs. War in the early to late medieval eras will be more common, if not the only possibility.
Either way this will push the game times of MP way too unreasonable to have a casual match with randoms. Not all games have the liberty of saving and playing with friends.
Additionally, I've seen some posts in threads on the new patch have argued that the forced policy/promotion selection will be better because it means now players will have to strategise their militaries in advanced. Great in a SP game but such mico-management is hard-pressed in a turn-timer game online, a game setting almost essential for a time constrained MP game.
They should have made insta-heal a one-off, or at least remove it instead of not being able to save promotions till later like in Civ IV.
