My friends and I all live very busy lives. We are mostly married, and have children. We love Civ 5 (and once we're all rich enough, I'm sure we'll love Civ6). We have a pitboss game going with the eight of us, however it takes 3 or more days per move. This is because at any given time, one of us is having an especially busy time with the kids, or at work. And once someone declares war, and turns are done in sequence, well, then the game speed slows even more.
Our proposed solution is that there should be a mobile client for multiplayer games. We don't care if the interface is just the strategic view (although looking at the beautiful to look at Civilization Revolution 2, we're sure that you could do even better), we just want a way of logging on and playing our turn when we're on the bus, or at work (corporate firewalls make playing impossible), or walking the dog, or wherever. We reckon we could increase our game speed five to ten times over with this change.
If the server is done right, and all the number crunching happens there, then the mobile client could be very lightweight.
I would also request that the graphics be adjustable, perhaps a "pretty" mode, and a "strategic view only" mode that doesn't even load the "pretty" mode into memory. This is because while as a software engineer, I prioritize having a high end phone, a number of my friends have mid range phones, and it would suck if the game didn't work on their devices.
Again, the mobile client would only be for multiplayer games. I understand that the full game, engine and all, would be well beyond the capabilities of most phones.
Bonus points if this could be implemented for Civ 5 and Civ 6.. As I mentioned, it will be a long time before my crew of eight can will all be rich enough to fight against the South African Rand to afford Civ 6.
