Hi all , ive looked but cant seem to find any hard info. Are there any multiplayer mods available? Loved CIV IV and its diversity of mods (most of which) worked in MP. But seems like its not possible in V. Anyone know whats up??? Thanks and sorry if this is aksed a lot, just looking for updated info...

Yup, mods currently don't work in multiplayer to my knowledge. Hopefully will be fixed in 3rd big patch

Can you, however, change values in the XML files for all players and then play a bit modded multiplayer?

If all players have the modded files that might work, but since it is not supported it is hard to tell what instability you might be introducing into the game.

My friend and I have used the values from the limit worker mod and edited (after backing up!) the .xml's referenced in the mod. It helps with late game 60 sec turns but we haven't found any other mods which are as easy to impliment.

We have had no issues with using these modded files even after the last patch

Don't be to disheartened, that is going to be your standard answer until they actually code the changes in a patch, so one day you will get this answer and if the next day he gets a note from Firaxis on the next patch notes and presto, Mods enabled in MP is on the list.

You will never get companies promising to do X by Y date, because if they do that and something delays it, they get hammered by the fans.

As it stands multiplayer games can be modded by tweaking the XML files, although this would require everyone to modify them identically to avoid frequent resyncs. These modifications, however, can only be rather minor.
