Well here we are, one year on. The Civilisation series has always been very robust in terms of singleplayer but what often keeps a game going for me is the ability to play with friends in multiplayer.
Unfortunately, as I found out a year ago, multiplayer is at best sluggish and at worst downright unplayable, especially with larger groups of players. Like I said, Civilisation has quite the focus on singleplayer so you can probably see why the multiplayer seems to have been overlooked. Whatever the reason it leaves me feeling disappointed and frustrated they did not spend more time on it.
I hoped they might resolve the issues in patches with the revenue they gain from people buying the DLC but this does not seem to have been the case as the same laggy, sluggish multiplayer is there today. I cannot be alone with this issues as other people must have given up as well; at most I have only seen four to ten game lobbies up at one time. Hardly the sign of a thriving and happy multiplayer community.
I guess this is a plea for Firaxis to finally fix their multiplayer in Civilisation V but if they have not done so in one year then what is the chance of it happening one year plus !
