With recent events I ask this question:

What should we do if a pair of canadates tie in the election & the run-off election?

Hmmm... the two parties play the same game of civ3 and whoever wins, get's the position? Just a suggestion...
(similar to the GOTM)

Plexus, that is by far the best solution proposed I have seen yet.

However, I fear that the timeline to impliment the game and get a winner may to long.

I think it will be highly unlikely that we encounter this problem again, but if we do, we could propose a law that goes to some kind of game of chance, such as a coin toss...a solution that is actually law on the books in many parts of the US.

A coin toss wouldn't work through.

why not?

A moderator could hold the toss, or effectively it could be a number picking...it doesn't matter.

First tie breaker: Runoff election
Second tie breaker: Incumbent advantage. Incumbent wins election.
Third tie breaker (if there are no incumbents): Fast responder advantage. First candidate on the ballot wins election. (Ballot position is based on the order in which candidates accepted nomination.)

No chance involved. The natural incumbent advantage is represented. No chance of more ties.

I would propose having a cabinet vote of the existing other cabinet positions to choose the leader as a second tie breaker.
If that one is also a tie then the president decides.
Like in a normal cabinet vote.
