Multiplyer rankings or leaderboards ?

One of the problem I find in multiplayer (in addition to quitters, fast-clickers, desyncs) is that we don't have any means to know if an opponent is good or bad, resulting often in games that are too imbalanced to be fun.

Would it be so difficult to implement some sort of a scoring system that would give an indication of how good is a player? Some free games do have these sort of systems!

I know that there is something like a civ players league, but it's too much of a hassle and only a very minority of users are on it. Is there some other solutions ?

Because the vast majority of the games end without a victory screen, there is no real way of having a representative ranking system in game. I play mostly multiplayer, and regularly have games end at a point where the players agree it's just a matter of the current leader grinding out the win which would take a couple more hours. Not many players stick around when its obvious they can't win. I am also a member of the Civ Players League. I play there mainly for getting games that don't end before a clear winner is determined. It may be a bit of a hassle, you may not agree with some of their rules and protocols, but you do get a full game experience and don't get all but the two top players leaving after you have invested a couple hours of your gaming time and the game falls apart.

@gcampono I doubt 2K will ever try and address this, but the Civ community has at Civplayers, we do create a leaderboard of all games played on the league, right now it uses ELO but we are in the process of replacing it with glicko2. Come check us out https://discord.gg/ubwTNdd

I'm guessing CanuckSoldier didn't actually read all of the initial post in this thread.
I read it all, I would not call 600 players a minority...not in terms of the MP player base for Civ6. The bottom line is 2K is not going to do this, so you either deal with not having one, and all the other problems of pub games. Or you come to Civplayers and "deal with the hassle" of belonging to an organized community, were people are punished for quitting and you have a skill rating.... your call in the end.

Thank you both Canuck and Amtrak. I think I should really try again to enter in the Civplayers community: the concept is great.

I didn't know there was 600 players in that community... the few times I logged in I never saw more than a few people (but maybe it's just I have not understood where to look). By the way I just discovered by your signature that there is a steam group chat and not only the discord server :).

It's just sad that 2K would not afford to implement something in the game.

Ya we don't really use the Steam Group chat for to much these days, since Steam changed their UI you can't "join off" players in steam chats unless you are steam friends with them. So please come to our Discord chat, that is were all the action is happening and with Gathering Storm two days away, people are very excited and we have lots of new players joining us

Well, there may be 600 players, but, as you noticed, not many are active at any one point in time. And normally, it is the same dozen or so players doing most of the gaming. I recommend you try it, and see if it fits what you're looking for, it wasn't for me, but some like it.

Well not sure what you mean by not many are active, we have 15-20 games per day, yes if you come in at 2am EST, there are not a lot of games. Yes it is not for everyone, but it is enjoyed but a lot of people too
