So, I've gotten quite tired of the same old civ4 music, and have decided to utilize my own collection to aid my various victory approaches. My question to you is what would/do you play for each victory?

I find that metal and dark electronic fit well with domination/conquest. The darker the better, I mean, I'm conquering the world and pillaging and slaughtering the innocent in a no-holds-barred push towards supremacy. This isn't a happy place to live in, so bring on the distortion and bass.

I like traditional/world music for cultural and space race approaches. Especially Indian music. If there must be war, there must, but it is only as a necessity towards a brighter future, and the music reflects the approach. Maybe I'll be so nice as to up the life expectancy and approval ratings if things get really peachy. Just to be nice to my citizens. It's a different mindset, really.

Do you listen to your own and what? If not, do you think it's a good idea?

I think that's a great idea, what you're doing. I always felt that the music should set the tone for what's happening in the game. I get all weirded out when that jaunty, uplifting Renaissance music is playing in the background of my mace/catapult/knight attacks. Burning villages, the screams of my enemies, and Beethoven -- not a nice mix.
Similarly, that atonal choral music in the Modern Era always makes me paranoid. I don't know if it has the same effect on everybody, but I keep expecting an attack from somewhere. I check the diplo screen and everybody is pleased, then why is this freaky scary music playing!?

Ive got Vivaldi's Stabat Mater, from the 'house of flying daggers' soundtrack. It is haunting opera music which fits the "dark" category that you mentioned. It goes well with utter destruction of capitals, pillaging and generally evil tactics.

Heh, I thought it was just me that had designated Civ music.

I have a pretty large Megadeth playlist for when I'm going all out for a conquest victory.
Songs like Reckoning Day and The Killing Road fit perfectly.

Being a Metalhead I don't really have any music suited for peacetime though.
I guess I could put on some of Satriani's slow stuff.

Cheerie Iidie pop/rock for culture and space race victories. Strong, peppy music to keep me awake as I check every facet of the diplo screen turn after turn.

I find classical music to be the right stuff when I want to spill the blood of my enemies, really, because it helps me stay calm and focused

I used the soundtrack to "Lord of the Rings" for a while, but that got old pretty quickly. Now I play the "Dead Can Dance" discography, it is mostly somber music and goes quite nicely with the pop/chopping and dominating tactics.

I stick with the default music. The guy in the flat below complained though that he could hear "classical guitar music" at 3am and I didn't even realise he would be able to hear it. I think it was the classical era music that he was complaining about.

If I listened to other music whilst playing, it would be Ministry/The Pixies/Big Black/Public Enemy for conquest/domination, Bob Marley for cultural, Hawkwind or Pink Floyd for space win, The Beatles for diplo, and The Clash or The Stranglers for time wins (well it takes a long time so you may as well listen to music you like).

I find hip hop is appropriate for all eras and approches to winning.

BTW, can a mod please move this into Strategy and Tips?

For Warmongering, you just can't beat "Mars: The Bringer of War" from Holst's "The Planets." It's influenced almost every epic movie soundtrack out there!
