Mutual Protection Pact not working?

Hi all, I'm playing version 1.29 on Monarch (and actually winning for once), but I'm having a problem with MPPs. Here's the situation:

The Persians and Aztecs have a military alliance against me, which is the only war going on currently. So I sign a Mutual Protection Pact with both the Americans and the Germans. The very next turn, both the Persians and Aztecs attack me, but neither the Americans nor Germans declare war on them. I go to the Foreign Advisor screen, and it says I have an MPP with both the Americans and Germans, but they don't seem to be living up to their end of the deal.

Am I totally missing something here, or is this a bug? I've searched the forums for something like this, but couldn't find anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Can I see a save, please? Perhaps Germany and America are already at war with Persia and Aztecs, hence you didn't see the popup saying they declared war? I'm not sure though, just by your description. Saves really help, thanks.

Have they actually attacked you in you own territory? I believe that is important to the computer's actions.

searcheagle: They haven't attacked me in my own territory. Does that matter for MPPs?

searcheagle is correct. MPPs only take effect if someone attacks you in your territory.
