I was wondering, since I know that ICBMs are very powerful, if there will a diplomatic way to pursue "nuke treaty" of some sort. I don't mean a Secret Project that removes nukes totally, but I mean like If I'm Germany and I have nukes, and I'm facing the French, who also have nukes, will I be able to sign some sort of agreement prohibiting the use of nukes between the two of us?
This would add a very rich layer of realism to the game. It would solve the constant problem that seems to occur in the end-game of TBS that everyone else has nukes, which forces you to build nukes, so they build more and you build more, then the (insert little annoying country here) builds a wonder that renders them universally obsolete.
This way, nukes would still be a viable course of action, but not nearly as deadly a one. After all, no one likes to have the guns of the world pointed at them just cuz they have nukes (for safety's sakes, since everyine else has them), even if they dont intend to use them as a primary means of attack.

Firaxis said the nuke era is something you "pass through" so maybe they are rendered useless?

The best defence against evil atom-mongers is plenty of SDI and loyal allies, the new UN powers in CIV3 might have bearing on the nuke question?

Unless the nation that plans on using the nukes is very powerful, hopefully the "Leader AI" (you have to read the thing in another thread) will intervene against the city\unit AI and stop them using the nukes. Then again, maybe not...
:nuke:

I hope you can have an agreement like that. It would kinda be like in Red Storm Rising. :tank:

I'd rather duke things out, than nuke things out.

Come on then!

I really hope that the AI shows more consideration of the effects of using nukes in Civ 3. In Civ 2 the AI would use nukes simply because it could, rather than with any kind of strategic goal which was ridiculous and would lead to global warming before you could say "I never used to get a tan in October". I can understand the AI using a nuke if it is about to be wiped off the map and will not get another turn. I used to, when I wasn't very good, and it does prolong your civ's lifespan, although you are very unlikely to win the game, even if you reach the end. Nukes, in the real world and in Civ, should be an absolute last resort and the AI should be aware of this, not using them like it used to use legionaries. It should also stop blowing thousands of shield away on SDI-defended cities. Once it has launched 2 ineffective nukes, it really ought to learn from its mistakes.
