I finally played my first game through. I went back to my default familiar civ... America. I played a large continent map with 12 civs on normal difficulty.

The AI still could use some improvement still. It is still a little to quick to start a fight at times. I started off in a decent spot and bumped into England to the south, two city states to the north west and Egypt and Rome to the north. England picked a fight with me early on because I coveted "their" land. I think coveting is ******** and they should have done away with it.

Anyway, I love religion and how you can spam it around the globe. It makes life a lot easier when it comes to diplomacy. That part I loved. I wish they would add government types again, and still allow for customization like they have now with the policies. They did it with religion, now they should work on Government.

The new resources are nice. I think copper should be a commodity and not a luxury. the AI seems better with trading, but I still think they need a point system for resources. Everything should have a value. Gold, silver and gems are at the top. Followed by copper, spices, citrus etc... Iron, stone and coal are at the bottom. For example 50 gold should equal 250 iron or 10 citrus is equal to 20 salt etc... I'm tired of this laundry list nonsense where the AI thinks it's fair to basically pillage you to get one or two resources and they won't budge on that. It is just dumb. The trading fairness needs to be fixed.

I like the new tech, new eras, and the new units. I think it is great they filled in a lot of gaps that needed filled. Two notable examples are that ship between the trireme and the man-o-war ship thingy (can think of the name now). Also, the biplane was a nice addition, as was a lot of the WW1 tech. I think they totally missed that in the vanilla version. It jumped from the civil war right in to WW2. I like that they fixed the gaps. The archer unit between the first archer and the crossbowman was nice too.

I played this game all the way through til everything was researched and I had a chance to try all the units. So I really wasn't "playing". I'm going to start a new game and actually play to win this time, probably as Japan (my other favorite), or I may try the Mayans or Celts.

I'll be sure to report back.
