My tactics

hmm, build a phalanx/warrior, then 2 settlers, get one of them to develope 2 tiles and the other to build a city, when the developer is done, find a place to settle him also, and reapeat until u get about 7 cities. after ur capital finishes building its 2nd settler, get it to work on a wonder, head straight for monarchy, then for democracy, not for the gov't, but for the statue, switch to fundy, then steal all the techs u dont have, by this time u should hav a SSC, a good port(good sheilds and trade and can send ur boats anywhere quickly), and a military academy(good sheilds, and can send ur men anywhere quickly)

I have read several times about people being able to land spacecraft before 1000 A.d. is this possible? Well i guess it would depend on what level you are playing at. I play king level and that is all i have ever played so wouldn't know about the lower levels. Techs most come more quickly in the lower levels. Has anyone every got the spaceship before 1000 A.D. in king level or higher? If so i must be doing something seriously wrong hehe....

Thanks guys for the replies on Civ III i think i will just stick with Civ II for now. And garynemo about the price of 9.99 wasn't that sweat :)

Oh yes.The 1000AD barrier has been broken numerous times on deity.Even in OCC on deity.Check out the strat forum at ApolytonCS where the folks are playing Early Landing Games(ELG).Solo did last ELG in 615 AD iirc(deity, medium map).He has also written an ELG guide over there.

Early Landing is an adapation of One City, where you still build the One City SSC with Shakespeare, Copernicus, Newton and Colossus, but surround it with 4-6 Helper cities to feed it caravans/freights for wonder building and trade. Early Republic seems to be preferred for extra trade, and once the switch to Democracy happens you build a few more cities as overseas colonies to start a back-and-forth trade chain. Come join the fun!
