Here we have Zeb Fisher's earth map, a brilliantly constructed standard sized map, in my estimation.

While I love Marla's map, and have played several variations on it, I'm one of those who wants a good earth map, without the 30 min wait in-between turns.
I'm also a huge fan of air power, and hate how on those huge maps, a bomber can't even go from England to Germany, much less the Marianas to Japan.

I've changed a few things about this map, namely, originally britian was attached to france, I fixed that, I also reworked the Philippine Islands (My girlfriend is from there, and I thought for her sake, I'd make her home country look as much like itself as possible on a standard map.) I also added Taiwan and an island right around where Iwo Jima.

The most drastic changes I've made is changes to the terrain-- plains and forests, and tundra produce no food, thats right, none. If irrigated, planes can produce 2, but are better off mined. Fish produce more food than before, and are clumped mainly around high-population centers. Your citizens will eat 3 food each, not two. Effectively, this will make large portions of the world uninhabited until the end of the game-- western china, the "soviet far east" siberia, northern north america aka canada, south america, and the sahara desert will feature nearly empty landmasses, as is realistic. Europe has a start position in england, germany, and rome, thats it, no french, and no greeks. Also, most of europe is covered in forests, if worked, Europe is second only to America in potential production, but unlike China, Europeans will be cutting down forests forever it will seem.
Also, the Oriental civs have been given 2 extra techs each, this is to allow them to keep up with the europeans, who will trade techs freely with each other, the russians, and the egyptians. This can be easily changed, if you wish, but I merely did it so that the Chinese will lead the world scientifically for a while, along with the indians, as is historically correct.

This map seeks above all else to create the possiblity for the player to re-create actual real world situations, and play through the game on a world map with parallels between the game, and real history.

This map has been playtested, but not by every civ, suggestions, as always are welcome. Enjoy!
