Has this ever happened to anyone?
Finding myself with only a single civilization on my continent, the Aztecs, and never having good relations with them, I decide to wipe them out before they wiped me out. A short but a brutal war later, I found myself alone on my continent with a handful of a number of level four units and a single level five unit within my seasoned army (West Point for me! Yeah!)
Time passes, and I explore the world, spreading my state religion whenever I can... including to the grateful Caesar. Peter, though a pleasant enough fellow, is my greatest rival, Caesar my only friend, and Tokugawa really pissed off with me. Figuring that I'd have to either invade Russia sooner or later, and preparing for future aggression from Tokugawa, I build up my army, gradually updating defenses... and gradually accumulating gold so I can upgrade my elite units for the upcoming war.
Then I get attacked from an unexpected direction: Rome! For some reason, Caesar declares war and slips an army onto my sacred soil! My elite American catapult suicide squad shows its colors by damaging the foolish invaders, allowing me to get dispose of some obsolete units in a useful manner, as well as getting some of my new army some experience. Take the time to upgrade my elite units. After attempting to gain naval superiority and maneuvering my units for the invasion of Rome, I notice something weird: my level five unit had most of its experience points. In fact, it was back down to ten XP!
(attached is the cropped screenshot of the unit in question)
I've reread my manual and browsed these threads, and didn't see anything about this being a feature in the game. Is this supposed to happen (like in Civ 3) or is it a bug?
